  1. Just signed up for a free XsUsenet acct. Downloading now. 121KBs. Cant complain, it is free.
  2. I am finally going to move all my files and apps over to my Unraid server. Built it about a year ago, and played around with a couple of junk drives. Now that drive prices are down and have gotten some decent storage. Currently I have Installed. WD Green 3TB Parity WD Green 3TB Sorage WD Green 3TB STorage. I upgraded to Plus Yesterday and I have two new drives that can be used for cache. WD 320 2.5in Laptop drive 5400rm 320gb Hitachi 1TB 7200rpm Which would be a better cache drive. The HGST would be speedy, but I dont really need a cache yhat large. The laptop drive is lower, but the size is about right. I am leaning towards using the 1TB Hitachi as cache.
  3. Remember Window ME. Here we go again. I really hate the Metro UI.
  4. I paid for my Plus license and got it thirty minutes later. Thanks Tom
  5. MP is a great option if you feel the need to integrate live TV, with your stored collection. Support of DVB-T, DVB-C and DVB-S. Has built in ComSkip to remove chimerical from you live TV recordings. Best thing out there if you have a lost of tuners you want to share. But its a real PITA to set all of that up. PMS and Xbmc can be setup in minutes. Xbmc and WM7 with an Xbox as a extender, work good for me and I get DVB-S with DVB Link for DVBDream for live TV, along with HdHome and a analog cable card. However since I use Sickbeard, I spend less time with live TV. Sports, News, and occasional bored channel surfing. I may give it another shot when and I have a few h o u rs......to kill. There is a new version since the last time I looked at it. MP is one you should certainly consider.
  6. The install of the Norco SS 500 went fine. The fit is a little tight. I am not sure of the size that I used. I have two of them. One 3 inch and one that is bigger. http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200237724_200237724?cm_mmc=Google-pla-_-Hand%20Tools-_-Vises%20%2B%20Clamps-_-962275&ci_sku=962275&ci_gpa=pla&ci_kw={keyword}&gclid=CPeL4q2ZrbMCFZGPPAodRz4ASQ
  7. I have both XBMC and Plex there is no reason not to run both. Plex is great if you want to share your library with firends and family, using MyPlex. The back end is totally isolated from the backend, as mentioned in the last post. Making family and kid friendly and not presenting to many options. Also if you need to transcode for low powers clients, Plex is a good choice. All thumbs are stored on the backend and playsate is uniforum for a whole house solution. If that is important to you, thats the one advantage that PMS has over Xbmc. It can be done on Xbmc but it requires a bit of work. If you have multiple users in your household that may, in fact be a disadvantage. I find that I prefer using Xbmc. Its more responsive when using the transport controls, and just does everything quicker. The picture quality seems to be a bit better and it will play any files without issues. I sometimes find on rare occasions that Pex wont play a file. You also have the MCE remote addon for Xbmc that allows you to easily remap you remote, so you almost never need to use a keyboard.
  8. I dont think you will find a plugin for this. Most would rip on another pc and just transfer the files to the server.
  9. Nzb get would be a better option. I did get Sab working, download speed was about 550kbs and it unrar ed the file, which took a while. Performance was acceptable for such a low powered device. Best use of this device is for media playback and not downloading. Openelec v2 is recently and it is a vast improvement over RaspXbmc, which I was using before. Flawless 1080p playback for 35 dollars.
  10. We will see. I have Sab installed, will install SB tomorrow or Monday. I might see blue smoke coming from the thing. MaYbe I will connect a 5500rmp Delta Fan to keep it cool. I really bought the rpi as learning tool, to get better at linux. I started messing with linux with Dreambox satellite boxes, then moved on to MythTV add DVB-S Sat Cards, under Ubuntu then Tivo modding and I learn a bit more as I go along. If sab/sb proves to be unworkable, and it dont burst into flames. I will pop the other SD can in and go back to using it as a xbmc player.
  11. I had RasXbmc running on a Rpi. I have been looking for a cheap way to set up my nephew with Sickbeard. I found a step by step guide for doing so, here. http://www.cylindric.net/blog/raspberrypi-setup/ If you dont have a Pi, its a fun little device. I wnat to try to get Xbmc and Sickbeard on this little bugger.
  12. Tabs are the little metal iips that that stick out from the sides. If you install an cd/dvd drive the bottom of the drive rests upon these tabs. If you are installing a 5 in 3, they have to be flattened, so they are out of the way. Most use a deep throated C-Clamp to flatten them out. Not a big deal. If you have a dremel, you can grind them off. I have two 3TB drive in my Unraid box now, running the latest beta, no, problems. I fyou use 3TB drive you have to use one of the version 5 betas.
  13. Yes that is the same case. Newegg does not carry it. Bought mine at Amazon. Right now I just have one Norco SS 500 installed. You will have to flatten the tabs that normally hold optical drives if you plan on using 5 in 3s. Looks like a Amazon seller has it for $69.00. I paid $110.00 for mine a year ago. http://www.amazon.com/Nexus-Prominent-9/dp/B0057JAJT6/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1351285314&sr=1-2&keywords=Nexus+Prominent+9 A few bucks cheaper here. http://www.endpcnoise.com/cgi-bin/e/prominent9_case_package.html
  14. I use a Nexus Prominent 9 case. It has 9 5.25 bays. You can fit three 5 in 3 bay in the case for a total of 15 dirves. It is the one that Greenleaf uses for their silent tower. I like it better than the Azzia, dont like the big ugly blue fan on the sie.
  15. you might find this thread useful. http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=13796.0 Google is your friend.
  16. Looks like this person is selling unraid basic pre-installed on a flash. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Embedded-Network-Attached-Storage-NAS-unRAID-Server-on-USB-RAID-Linux-Software-/280977659017?pt=US_Operating_Systems_Software&hash=item416b92d489
  17. Yes I know, its free to view, if you are sent an invite. If I want to share my media, I would need the Plex Pass.
  18. I have wondered fi you set up a MySql database have your clients pull from your server, also your playstates would be uniform on all your clients. Would that speed things up. Thats the way Plex works, but I still perfer XBMC over Plex.
  19. I think they will fit. Same case was used in this build. However Norco SS 400 4x3 cages used. http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=15756.msg146631#msg146631 You usually have to bend the tabs back. I used a deep throated c clamp. Took about 15 mins to do all. It makes life easier of you do all the tabs before starting to build you server.
  20. You have one hellova collection. I went through you movies till my thumb got tired. I dont have a plex pass. I may get one now. I tried setting it up a while back, when it was free, but had trouble with port forwarding. It worked with DMZ, but I cant run like that. Had a problem with 1080 content, buffering. 720 was fine. I only have about 450 movies. 18TB is a buttload. I hope you get all you apps running on one box. Thank you for the invite.
  21. I looked up the specs on you case. Its said it comes with a 120mm front an rear fan. If that slot is empty, it should fit. My 3TB Green parity get up to 41c during parity syncs. Your parity drive Hitachi_HDS72202 Is 7200 rpm and will tend to run warm under heavy load. I looks like all your drives are greens except for two. Some more air flow would be nice. A regular fan or two should do the trick. Or a couple of 5 in 3 racks. I only have three in a Norco SS 500. I replaced the noisy 80mm Coolink fan as suggested in thid forum. It sounded like a small hair dryer. Now I can barely hear it. Its in a guest room, that is used fairly often. One of the selling points of your case, is that it quiet. I will be quiet no more with that noisy (albeit, bad ass fan). Rated at 66dba my Coolink is 18dba. If you and tolerate a leaf blower running 24/7, it may be the perfect fan for you. I dont have that much experience with unraid, so I can say if that temp during parity checks is scary or not. I just wanted to comment on your fan selection. If you get this fan, let us know how you like it. Read these review excerpts form Newegg Reviews: Pros: Very Powerfull airflow. Great Fan for deaf people. Cons: This thing is SO loud that it should actually come with a warning label letting the buyer know how load it is. It is a joke. I usually do not care about having a loud PC , but No exagerating here, This thing is louder than Most vacuum cleaners. Words can not explain how LOUD this thing is, You would just have to make the huge mistake of buying one to hear it. -------------------------------- Cons: 81 Decibels NOT 66! at first I thought it's not that loud until I had my decibel tester find it was much louder. --------------------------------- Cons: LOUD, Yes I already knew it would be but trust me, if your thinking I don't care about loud I just want the lowest temps on earth! mwhauahaha! You will regret this purchase
  22. Good to see you got it running. what works for me when installing a new package/plugin, is to not set the data directories until I verify that its installing correctly and running. I will run in memory and all setting will be gone upon reboot. Then if its stops working after I make changes, it makes it easier to troubleshoot. Aint Linux fun.
  23. I suggest you try using Influncers plugin for Sab, Sickbeard. The links were included in my first post. Get one thing going at a time. I might be a good idea to back up your flash drive and boot your server with just the basic Unraid, then install one addon at a time. There are many ways to install addons, your task now is to find one that works for you. I have outlined the steps to get PMS up and running, again, I suggest you start over. Follow the instruction in my first post and it will work. If there is a step you dont understand, ask a question. There are many people that will try and help you.
