  1. okay, so for clarfication, hypotherically, i could have a 10TB and 12TB parity disks. But so long as the main drives are not bigger than 10TB it will be fine. in my case, i need to make BOTH my parity the 10TB drives?
  2. hi, sorry my post may not be clear. I've added one of my 10TB to the parity drives.. or am i misunderstanding, and i need both my parity drives to be the same size?
  3. Hey guys, so just last week i grabbed myself a few new drives for my array. The existing array was made up of mostly 8TB Drives, with a few 3 & 4TB drives. I grabbed two 10TB drives with the intention of one being a second Parity drive, and the other being added to the main array. Adding the second parity drive was fine. Time consuming, but fine. However adding the second 10TB drive to the main array keeps giving me the error "Disk in parity slot is not biggest." when i try starting the array. I've tried preclearing the disk. I've tried investigating the actual size of disks using terminal commands etc., but i still cant determine why this is happening. I've attached diagnostics. Any help is appreciated tower-diagnostics-20220221-1211.zip
  4. Thanks! I replaced my UPS (APC 700) shortly after i posted the OP. The older 700VA unit was giving me battery errors when testing. Sadly my unraid issues persisted. Since then i have replaced the PSU in the unraid server with an 850W unit (vs the 750W previously in it). I can confirm upping the PSU has resolved my issue. Parity check is at 0.5% thus far and hasnt shut down the server (previously wouldnt even hit 0.0% lol)
  5. Hi all, I've been battling with this issue for about 2 months now. It seems that every sunday my unraid server shuts down and fails to reboot. For a while now i thought it was due to an overheating issue (summer here in Australia). After cleaning the server from all its dust, and checking server temps it appears this is not the issue. You see - the server turns on, loads up unRaid, and then shuts down. Through trial and error, i've found that by loading up unRaid into Safemode- the server will stay running. After manually rebooting from Safemode back into normal mode, it runs fine. After this, the server will continue to run fine until the following Sunday. I've taken a look at the scheduler, and saw that both the Parity Check, and Mover were set to run on Sundays - thinking that both running at the same time might be causing conflicts, i moved the Mover schedule to run every Monday instead. This has made no changes to the issue. After noticing the date/time settings were wrong on my unRaid instance (timezone set to default, and not +10 for East Australia), the random shutdowns changed to be occurring early hours Sunday for me. I performed an OS update about 1 week ago (After last sunday's shutdown). However the issue has occurred again today. Looking at the system logs, there isn't enough information to work with as it only shows all events since i restarted the server. I'm honestly not sure where to go from here. Without Logs - im flying blind. Can anyone offer some other things i might try? I have attached diagnostics for review tower-diagnostics-20210110-1607.zip
  6. Thanks, i ran the xfs_repair command and it appears to have sorted things. Much appreciated
  7. Hey there, Few weeks back i was hit with an unfortunate case of 'Unmountable: no file system' on Disk 3. I decided to unmount the array, remove that drive from the array, restart the array, stop the array, remount that drive as disk 3, and restart the array. I've done this in the past to resolve issues, and when replacing drives. I've now replaced what i thought was a faulty drive, however disk 3 continues to throw this error and cause me grief. I have tried rebooting, restrating array without a disk 3 (relying on Parity), replacing the drive (disk3) outright with another harddrive. I've swapped the SATA cable it is using, and even swapped the SATAPOWER cable it is using. I've done some research, and found a few fixes that have worked for others, but i dont want to try anything without having someone look over my logs, just in case i break things further. I am not really sure how to proceed. Logs attached. Thanks in advance for any suggestions. tower-diagnostics-20190704-2351.zip
  8. Okay, i think i may have solved this on my own (best feeling ever btw). I did some googling, and after being told the same thing over and over - "Disk errors are nearly always related to cabling" - i shutdown my unRaid box. I pulled it out, and unplugged every drive. I re-cabled every SAS > SATA cable from scratch, as well as recabling the SATA Power cables. This is when i noticed that i had used a molex to 5x sata power adapter, at the end of a molex to 2x molex adaptor, at the end of a molex to 2x molex. This is pretty stupid, i know. I simply took one of the molex to 2x molex out of the equation and continued my recabling. unRaid booted up and voila! 0 errors. all files available in the shares. I guess with the number of drives i have the molex adapters could provide enough power? I will be upgrading the power supply in my unRaid machine soon, and ill be sure to get one that's capable of 15-20 drives, without the need to use so many damn adapters. Cheers for your help Trurl
  9. Server has rebuilt array. Is back online and all disks are present. There are a few Errors on a few different disks which is concerning. Diagnostics are attached tower-diagnostics-20190521-0054.zip
  10. Thanks for your suggestion, I have purchased a secondary RAID card with some SAS > Sata cables. Plugged it in, and away we go. Currently rebuilding ARRAY now. Will touch base again once its all up and running
  11. Thanks! Ill try swapping out some of the SATA cables in use and see what happens.
  12. Hello there, So I've been running plex / unraid for about a year now. Loving it so far. Very few issues, all of which resolved with some google searching. Until this week. As of late, I've been running into an issue whereby all of a sudden certain unraid shares are empty. I was in the middle of watching a tv series, enjoying some pancakes, when all of a sudden, the episode is buffering - buffering rarely ever happens for me, and when it does, its network related. So i go through standard diagnostics to see what's causing it, when i find my TV Shows share completely empty when browsing to it via my windows PC, and Windows server. This has happened a few times now, each time being fixed with either a full reboot of the unRaid system, or by waiting 10 - 15 minutes. I'm new to diagnosing issues with the unRaid system itself. I am not really sure where i should be looking. I am aware that one of disks is missing, being emulated by the parity disk. I have a new drive ordered, eta 2-3 days. Is it related, or coincidence? I have attached the diagnostics.zip file Any assistance or suggestions are greatly appreciated. tower-diagnostics-20190510-1650.zip
