  1. Actually i guess i would need two LSI HBA for 24 HDD. Any specific LSI HBA or just any of all the hundreds that exists? Thanks for the information!
  2. So, ive tried the wiki that hasnt been updated since someone invented electricity. i've tried the forum but theres been a huge lack of response. i've tried googling but every result seems as outdated as the wiki. now im out of ideas... so i guess this is one last try before i go with some other solution than unraid where i can get help. how would i know what to buy for my unraid build if i want all hardware to be compatible with unraid (as in raidcards, expansioncards, backplanes.. whatever)? it will only serve as a storage. no vm, docker or any kind of serverapplications running other than sharing files over SMB. and im going to use some kind of 24+ x HDD rackmounted chassi.
  3. So im thinking of buying a used supermicro, that has these specs: Chassi: Supermicro 4U SC846 CPU: 2x Xeon E5-2620 6-core, 12 threads, Base 2.00GHz, Turbo 2.50GHz, 15MB cache Motherboard: X9DRi-F RAM: 64GB (8x8GB ) max 512GB (16x32GB DDR3 RDIMM) Raidcontroller: 1x LSI MegaRAID SAS 9266-8i batterybackup Backplane: BPN-SAS2-846EL1 SAS Expander Backplane PSU: 2x1200W 80+ platinum Would that work for unraid that are only gonna be used as a storage server? (no VM or stuff like that) Or is it some hardware on that list that are incompatible with unraid? Or some hardware that needs (serious) modification to work? Or something else i missed that i should consider? (i know it lacks HDD's)
  4. ive outgrown my 8slot, 5slot and 4slot NAS'es. And realized that using a lot of different volumes isnt optimal for radarr/sonarr. So im looking for good rack-mounted enclosure that fits 24+ HDD (or 72) that can use motherboards and sas/sata cards that works great with unraid. so, something like supermicro and the likes.. I just dont want to feel that im running out of space anytime soon. anyone has suggestions? (im from sweden, so id prefer if i got suggestions on enclosure that i actually can buy and not only available to US customers etc..)
  5. Ok, thanks for all the help! Both those products say they are SFF8087 (as the SATA-card im planning on buying), so my guess is that they work. But for some reason that SATA-card isnt listed on the productinformation on the first product where it says which cards its for. well well, guess ill just try. once again, thanks!
  6. ok, great. thanks! anyone know if there is some known issues with the stock motherboard in Dell T20 (the one with G3220 cpu) computers when using a/any LSI sata card? i mean if there are any cards that work better for that motherboard. or something else i should think about since i have that motherboard. and how can i be sure that its the correct cable? Since im looking at swedish shops, they dont list it as "forward breakout sata cable". this is one cable i found, but no idea if its the correct one. https://www.dustinhome.se/product/5010764284/seriell-ata-kabel (yeah, the page is in swedish) or perhaps this one: https://www.dustinhome.se/product/5010967576/satasas-kabel (yeah, still swedish)
  7. If I'm not mistaken. The LSI SAS 9207-8i works ootb without flashing to it. If the wiki is correct that is...
  8. So I was thinking Id buy this sata card. LSI SAS 9207-8i But I'm not entirely sure on how many disks I can (or should) connect to it? Reading info about the card or says 256 sata devices. But that seems way wrong.. I guess it's more like 8 sata hdd? And do i need some sort of cables to connect between the card and the disks? Since it seems to be SAS. And Guess it needs to split in more sata cables/connections?
  9. Couldnt find any information about this.. If i setup and configure a server with unraid today, with a couple of drives (connected to the motherboards sata ports). And a couple of month from today, i need more disks. Can i then add a SATA card and connect more drives? Or is that something that has to be done before setting everything up? Do i need to redo everything if adding SATA-card and drives to that card? (reinstall unraid, redo config, etc, i.e loose all files) (i know i can just add drives to motherboard if more ports, or add to an existing SATA-card if it has available ports. But im confused if adding a SATA-card without loosing everything on the drives are possible..
