  1. Sounds like your server can't reach the internet to download the files. Try installing the webgui plugin manually to ensure your server has no internet access issue. If that works, then perhaps your nic driver isn't loading fastest enough. The gods here will want to see your syslog to confirm the issue.
  2. Does emhttp still crash after a parity check finishes? Sent from my SGH-T889 using Tapatalk 2 Didn't crash on me, but then again, it never did.
  3. Install htop and telnet in, type "htop". The write cache comments are directed to HP MicroServer users. Thanks! I did a search and there are several downloads for htop. Which one are you using for unraid? I didn't find it on Limetech site either. Link please?
  4. where can you see that it's using all cores using the webgui? I have a dual core and would like to know if unraid is using both. I'm also thinking of buying a quad core. I also don't see any write cache setting in my bios. Perhaps my board just doesn't have this setting or issue.
  5. good point. I'll buy a new heatsink and fan to go with it.
  6. I think I may try the Intel Core 2 Extreme QUAD CORE QX9650 first, as it's only a $200. I should see some good cpu improvement over my existing e6600, and I can just drop this in without changing anything.
  7. For what's it worth, I'm now running rc11 and SF 1.05 with no major issues. I still have the syslog issue, but SpeedingAnt has already said he would fix that, along with the other minor bugs.
  8. Thanks! I can get a Intel Core 2 Extreme QUAD CORE QX9650, used on ebay for $220., but hell that is the same price as the newer CPU you were suggesting and it's much faster. I would just need a new mb too. Decisions....
  9. I have a PSU CORSAIR|CMPSU-550VX 550W RT, purchased in early 2009. Not sure it's compatible with Xeon E3 or not. I do have a Supermicro MB now. With 10 drives in it, I have never had a lack of power issue. If that one wouldn't work, what PSU would you recommend for my setup? I may be willing to go a little higher. Thanks!
  10. Hey all, I found out my current rig (specs below) can't get the job done for Plex. I'm thinking of slamming in a new motherboard and cpu. I want to keep my same case and drives, etc, just swap the mb out. I want my new mombo to be as stable as my current one. I have no issues at all, solid. I was thinking of getting a i7 processor. I don't want to spend a ton of cash, but I'm willing to invest $400 -$500, if I have to. I guess I'll need new memory too. Thanks!
  11. upgraded to this release, no issues so far.
  12. ok, going from rc10-test to rc11. When I upgraded to rc10-test, I had to run the make_boot.bat file and run New Perm, copy the two main files and the syslinux.cfg file to get it to boot. To go to rc11 from here, do I need to do all of that again, or just swap the two main files like the good ole days?
  13. That link was to my post / issue in the RC10 thread. I had the slow webgui and share issue on the first boot. However, I was not able to reproduce the error, so I didn't bother with the syslog. My rig boots up like normal, and I have no idea why the first boot to rc10-test took a long time to boot. Party on rc10-test just finished, Duration: 12 hours, 3 minutes, 44 seconds. Average speed: 69.1 MB/sec - looks about the same as before for my rig. Dang rc11 is out now so I will upgrade to that today and report back.
  14. Ok, syslog coming after my parity check and a fresh reboot. Are you sure about the webgui and the shares not being related? It's my understanding that the webgui start command (/usr/local/sbin/emhttp &) is required to start the webgui interface and that must be running before any shares are published. If that is correct, they are very much related. Again, this wasn't the case before the update, and I have no smart data or other performance issues that indicate a hard drive issue. Other than the slow emhttp and share thing, this build seems good. By the way, after you get the console login prompt, who long before you can access via IE webgui and connect to a share?
  15. After this update, I see no difference in copy speeds, using smb. I will test partiy check next. So again, anyone else have their server take extra long time to load the webgui and publish the shares (about 2 min)? Before this update, it was much faster at both of those. Thanks!
  16. Ok, the upgrade from rc8 to rc10-test went ok. At first the server wouldn't boot. I had copyied the two main files and then ran the make_boot.bat and thought I was ok. I ended up having to also copy the menu.c32 file, and then it booted just fine. I ran the new perm utility, took about 2.5 hours. I then did a reboot, just to check that everything works ok. The server came right up, but I noticed that the webgui and shares took a long time to load compared to previous versions. Before when I saw the Login prompt on my console, it was only a matter of seconds before the webgui and shares were available. After the upgrade it took about 2 mintues, which seemed like a real long time. I was about to try launching the command to start the webgui manually, but it finaly came up. Again, went ok, just took a long time to load for some reason. Anyone else see this after upgrading? I will do a parity check and test copies re smb next and report back.
  17. I'm on rc8a, going to try rc10 test, which I guess is the latest and greatest.... I copied the two main files and after reading all the posts here, I went ahead and ran the batch files again. Will run new perm as soon as it comes up and report back.
  18. Alternatively you put the .txz file in the folder /boot/extra and it will be loaded automatically (no need to update your go file). Whatever you prefer... Oh ya, thanks. I'm not sure why I didn't just do that. I guess given it's all the same, I'll just leave it in the packages. I guess the only thing that might change is install order. I rebooted after and it zipped the current syslog right before rebooting. Cool if you need to troubleshoot and don't want to manually copy the syslog before rebooting.
  19. Ok, dropped infozip-6.0-i486-1.txz in my /boot/packages folder. I assume I need to add the following to the GO file as well, but please let me know if I'm missing anything, installpkg /boot/packages/infozip-6.0-i486-1.txz
  20. Thanks! Ah, called infozip. I was searching for ZIP. So by installing this, the syslog will be saved (zipped) to the flash drive as part of the shutdown script, instead of just being wipped out which is what normally happens? This will be helpful when troubleshooting. not to mention I won't see the error message during shutdown anymore. Thanks again!
  21. fair enough - my system if running good, just old hardware. I was just thinking of getting a more powerful cpu and adding more ram, which would require a mb change. I'm running the Plex Media Server plugin and it is a resource hog. That said, it ain't broken.
  22. I too was thinking of updating my motherboard, and adding more memory. I'd like to know what the recommeneded brand / model would be.
