I think it would be better for your use case and probably cheaper overall to buy brand new parts.

The i9 10900 is a good CPU If you really need those cores to use with VMs but it doesn't sound if you plan on doing that.

The MPG Z490 GAMING EDGE motherboard is not an optimal board for a NAS.

Even though it comes with 6 SATA ports and a pair of M.2 slots, you'll only be able to add a single nVME SSD.

If you populate the second M.2 slot with a SSD (either SATA or PCIe) it will disable 2 out of available 6 SATA ports.

There are readily available new, relatively cheap ATX motherboards that don't have that limitation, also come with 8 onboard SATA ports.

One of those could be paired with a cheap i3-12100 CPU that should offer more than enough of processing power for your needs.

Try to keep it simple - don't use any of the add-on cards unless absolutely necessary, especially when you can easily reduce the number of required SATA ports by replacing those currently used 2TB HDDs with a single drive of the much higher capacity.

What expansion SAS card would you recommend? I will eventually replace the hard drives for larger one, but at the moment funds are limited.

Thank you. I really appreciate your help on this. I've been Googling for days trying to figure out if that gaming board was  going to work well with unraid. I don't mind spending a little more $$$ just to future proof. However, I will mainly use this server for streaming movies, music, and possibly setting a cloud storage for work / school related files.

  3. I have not used my UnRaid server for several years now. I mainly used it to stream movies via Plex inside / outside network. Now, I am thinking of installing outdoor cameras and using my UnRaid to store video, and setting up my own cloud.

I have dual parity drives, and 1 cache drive. I've got about 31 TB, but I am slowly trying to upgrade my drives from 2TB to 4TB or larger depending on price.

I had a Intel NIC Pro 1000 GT, which for some reason or another died, my MB NIC is Realtek RTL8111E, and not very reliable.

    Current set up:

    Mobo: AsRock Z77M

    CPU: Intel i5 3570K

    RAM: G.SKILL Sniper Series 8GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2133 (PC3 17000)

    Case: AZZA Helios 910 CSAZ-910 Mid-Tower

    HDD: Total 31 TB

    PSU: Corsair TX750

    SAS: AOC-SASLP-MV8

    UnRaid Pro License

I have spent a few weeks looking at people's set up--some very expensive and others pretty inexpensive. I know I want to stick with Intel since it is what I found to be the most reliable. I can't really decide on what to buy, and I really don't want to spend $$$ and later on find out that I ordered the wrong parts. For example, I am not sure if I will be able to continue using the ACO-SASLP-MV8 or will I have to upgrade this as well.

Thanks for any help on this matter!

My Win10 laptop started doing this a lot more recently.  I am assuming some Windows update has prompted the change.

I can resolve it by telling windows to log into the share with username of "\" and leave the password box blank.  I hope that works for you.

This worked for me as well.  Thanks. Using Windows 11 and UnRaid 6.11.1

  5. I'm a member of several other projects from tech, crypto, NFT, etc, and they've got a discord channel where members can interact and help each other live from anywhere around the world. I was wondering if UnRaid has ever thought of creating a discord channel?

  6. I have not used my unraid server for several years. I've had it in storage for a while. Today, I've decided to turn it on, check parity, and update the OS and possibly the hardware, but I cannot get it to get an IP. Attached is the log file I had to download via command line, which is something I've never done before, but I had to learn.

I've also Googled this issues, but none of the things others have done have helped me.

  7. I’ve haven’t had any issues with UnRaid for years. However, I noticed that the second parity drive was disabled. I shut down the server, cleaned it, and checked all of the connections. Turned it back on, and the parity drive 2 still disabled. So, I shut it down and moved the parity drive to a different slot. Turned the server one and the 2nd parity drive still disabled.

I searched the forum and Googled it, and I am not able to find a solution to this issue. I have attached the system log as well.

    Thank you for any assistance.

  8. I have not used my UnRaid server for over a year. The last time I used it, it was working just fine. I am in the process of getting my home theater set up back again and adding my UnRaid server back again. Once, I get my server up an running, is there anything I should do first prior to updating UnRaid?

  9. Updated from 6.6.5 to 6.6.6 without any issue. Running parity check at the moment. One thing I noticed, I am able to access Plex outside my network now. When I updated to 6.6.5, accessing Plex outside the network stopped working, and I just got tired trying to fix it, but now after the update and rebooting, it started working by itself.

The cache disk dropped offline, power down, check connections, power back up and post new diags.

On disk6, and if you haven't yet, you need to run reiserfsck with --rebuild-tree.

Sorry, I have been busy with work. I ran reiserfsck--rebuild-tree. I also check all the connections to the cache drive, and everything appears to be good. I am in the process of possibly ordering new cables since the one's I've got have never been replace since I build the server almost 5 years ago. Yet, I think it is time to upgrade. So, I'll be slowly but surely get some new gear to build a new server.

The array is back on line and all of my shares are back. It doesn't appear that I've lost any data. Thank you for all of your support.

You need to check filesystem on disk6, there are also issues with your cache disk, instead of just posting the syslog please always post your diagnostics: Tools -> Diagnostics

    Ran filesystem on disk6

    reiserfsck 3.6.27

Will read-only check consistency of the filesystem on /dev/md6
Will put log info to 'stdout'

  12. So, I woke up today, and tried to access my UnRaid server via my window 7 PC. I clicked on the Network tab, click on Tower, click on the Media Share folder, and the folder is empty. Yet, if I click on the individual disk shared folder/media/ is had my movies and tv shows folder.

I check my system log, and it has a lot of errors, which I am not sure what they mean. I have attached the log, and I would greatly appreciated for your help. Thank you.
