  1. @BillClinton thanks for the tip on the PSU, much appreciated. I'll add it to the list of possible components. Now to try and figure out which motherboard/cpu to settle on.
  2. Hi all, As the title states I'm here asking for help from experienced NAS builders to help. I had a large unRAID server before but sold it...with a little help or a lot of help from the significant other. So in search on Craigslist for something with a smaller footprint I came across a Bitfenix Phenom Mini-ITX case for $20, score right? It has space for 6 3.5" drivers. Now to put the rest of the pieces together and hopefully this is where your help comes in. Requirements: 1) Small and "out of the way" as the girlfriend puts it. I think I'm covered for now. 2) Quiet "I don't want to hear that thing" again as she puts it. Seasonic PSU perhaps? 3) Serve 1-2 4K/60 streams simultaneously. I'll be using Intel Nucs (Kaby Lake) and Amazon Fire TV 4K wired. 4) Stream music / Acts as time capsule for backing up computers/iPads/iPhones 5) Remote access for my dad to the server (for my existing movies) 6) The use of Docker for Sonar and the like I don't have a budget but trying to keep it respectable. I have a couple 3TB Seagates drives and the case. So it would be options for; Motherboard CPU Ram PSU Any info is greatly appreciated and would go a long way to happy times around here.
  3. Moderators, if this is in the wrong forum please move. I'm still quite new to unRAID but I got to the point where my server was up and running. Once I had everything how I liked I shut it down and move it to the basement to it's permanent place. Upon starting it back up I found that the USB Flash Drive was dead. I couldn't read off it. I plugged it into another computer and nothing. Then I thought it was my MB's usb ports, nope as I was able to use another USB Flash drive in the same port and worked fine. As per the title I bought the Pro version of unRAID. I naturally freak out as I thought I had lost everything, after some reading and breathing deeply for a few minutes I thought of emailing Lime Tech to see what they could do. I was pleasantly surprised that they told me they would be able to switch the Registered GUID from my dead flash drive to a new one. I sent the new Flash GUID and within 24hrs I got a new Pro.key. I stopped the server and copied over the new key, started the server back up again and to my surprise I still only got the Parity and two drive options. Upon further inspection I noticed that when I sent the GUID to Lime-Tech support 8 digits out of the 27 were wrong. I took the GUID from the main page of unMENU (//tower:8080) and I think that may have been my mistake. I've included a screen shot. I did send Lime-Tech another email explaining my situation but have not heard back. Is there anything that can be done within the config file or go file to set the correct GUID or am I out of luck? Any help is appreciated. *Re-attached file.
  4. @ stchas, Thanks for the walkthrough. It solved my issues of not having the mover script do it's thing. I've also added CouchPotato into the mix. I thought I was going to mess things up again but here's what I did: (this is more to help the newbies) In Sabnzbd I kept the download folders as /mnt/cache/.sabnzbd/Downloads/complete and /mnt/cache/.sabnzbd/Downloads/incomplete In CouchPotato I did this: Under "Renaming" I 'enabled' the option. Under 'Download Folder' I directed it to the folder where Sabnzbd holds the completed downloaded files which is "/mnt/cache/.sabnzbd/Downloads/complete" Under 'Movie Destination' I directed to the folder where I want the movies to go which is "/mnt/user/Movies" I didn't know if the above would work but during the night the Mover Script did the moving to the array. I'm pretty happy and hope this helps anyone in a similar situation. Thanks.
  5. Thanks for your reply Kevin. I'll try it shortly. I do have another question. Do I also have to change /mnt/cache/.sabnzbd to /mnt/user/Movies under the 'Data Directory:' in the plugin settings (or in your case cause you're on 4.7) 'complete-dir:' OR just as you stated in the Sabnzbd - Completed Download Folder?
  6. Sorry I also wanted to include my Sabnzbd config in the settings section of 5.0b14 and on the app itself. I just want to get this issue solved so I can start enjoying my setup. Thanks.
  7. Hello all, I'm at my wits end. I don't know why a test file I have downloaded to the Cache Drive via Sabnzbd is not being moved. My issue is that I get this error message in the log when the Mover Script on is initialized at the time I set it. Here is what the log states: Mar 1 01:30:01 Tower logger: mover started Mar 1 01:30:01 Tower logger: skipping */ Mar 1 01:30:01 Tower logger: mover finished I have followed, or at least I think I have, the directions on how to setup Sabnzbd and the Cache Drive. I have included my syslog, and screenshots of how I have things setup. I'm only using Sabnzbd and don't plan on using SB or CP. I also have only one User Share which is Movies. I haven't enabled the 'Enabled Movie Sorting' option on Sabnzbd, is that necessary to move the file to the array? My understanding is that the Cache drive looks for the downloaded folder in Sabnzbd and moves whatever is there to the array, more specifically the User Share (in my case Movies). Can anyone help? I'm using the Sabnzbd plugin on 5.0b14 syslog-2012-03-01.txt
  8. I've included my System Log in the attachment. Hopefully this sheds some light into what's going on. Noticing something, my data drives and parity all spin down after an hour and but the cache drive doesn't. Could that be the reason why it's giving me this error? syslog-2012-02-19.txt
  9. @ Dgaschk, Yes they do. @ Marcusone, Should I be running the Long Smart Test or would the Short one suffice? Again, thanks for your help.
  10. I've been getting this error when I look at my Syslog. I don't know how to fix it but I'm guessing it has to do with one of my drives. I've also been having issues with my cache drive not moving files to the array. Maybe this error is the culprit. This is the error: Feb 19 15:06:51 Tower kernel: ata4: exception Emask 0x10 SAct 0x0 SErr 0x4000000 action 0xe frozen (Errors) Feb 19 15:06:51 Tower kernel: ata4: irq_stat 0x00000040, connection status changed (Drive related) Feb 19 15:06:51 Tower kernel: ata4: SError: { DevExch } (Errors) Feb 19 15:06:51 Tower kernel: ata4: limiting SATA link speed to 1.5 Gbps (Drive related) Feb 19 15:06:51 Tower kernel: ata4: hard resetting link (Minor Issues) Feb 19 15:06:52 Tower kernel: ata4: SATA link down (SStatus 0 SControl 310) (Drive related) Feb 19 15:06:52 Tower kernel: ata4: EH complete (Drive related) My system: 2TB Parity Drive - sda - connected to motherboard SATA 3 Gb/s port. 320GB Cache Drive - sdb - connected to motherboard SATA 3 Gb/s port. I'm thinking is the culprit as it's only a 1.5GB/s drive but who knows. 2 x 1.5TB drives - sdc/sdd - connected to motherboard SATA 3 Gb/s port. Unraid 5.0b14 I also have a SuperMicro AOC-SAT2-MV8 installed in the box but no drives connected to it. Any help is greatly appreciated.
  11. Thanks for the info Prostuff1 & WeeboTech. I bought a new case (Fractal R3) and a new power supply (Corsair HX650). I really like the layout of the R3. I'm building this unRaid server for my brother and when I get around to building mine I'll use a larger case with cage drives. The server is going through it's pre-clear right now. Even though I don't have any linux background I found it quiet easy to follow the directions. I do have a question if someone could be kind enough to shed some light on. I intend to test the server for a few days once it's all done and after purchase a license to put more drives in. My question is how can I set the server up for speed? Would it be best to put the cache drive on a motherboard port instead of the expansion card? Also, is there such a thing where you can run two cache drives in Raid 0 for maximum speed? My thought process is to have my 74GB WD Raptor drive as the cache drive and on the motherboard as well as my 2TB WD drive that will at as the parity drive.
  12. Hello all, After countless hours of reading I am comfortable enough to try and get my hands dirty with installing unRaid on an old computer. I don't have use for it as I have a Macbook Air and a Asus netbook. The primary reason for the server is to use it as a media server. With many macs and windows machines plus an iPad and an ATV 2...it'd be nice to be able to stream music/movies from a central point. Two points of concern is if my hardware is good enough for my second concern which is speed. I was thinking about a Qnap system but would rather save a couple of bucks and upgrade my old pc. Will unRaid and my hardware give me speeds to match a 4-bay Qnap system (412)? Any info is greatly appreciated. Here are my specs: Case: Antec P180 (the old steel/aluminum case) MB: Asus P5K (775 intel chipset) CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 Dual-Core Processor, 2.4 GHz PS: SilverStone SST-ST50EF - 500W (80 PLUS) HD: 1) WD Raptor 74.3GB x 1 (thinking of using this as my cache drive)? 2) WD Green 1.5TB x 1 3) WD Green 2TB x 2 (one of which would be my parity drive) The only thing I would like is to add a drive cage (do any fit the P180?) and future proof my server. Also I'd like to be able to transfer/server files quickly and to multiple sources. Any advice? Thanks for helping out a noob.
