Sorry I didn't give much info on the USB controller I was attempting to passthrough. Yes, it is the Asmedia one. I had another thread about that, but then I figured I better concentrate on the errors I thought were causing the problem first. Still no luck on getting the VM to start after adding the USB controller. 😞 IOMMU Group 17 has the Asmedia controller. I've been having a lot of issue with what seems should be easy watching videos and reading articles. I want to pass-thru an add-on USB card to a Windows 10 VM, but there seems to be some root issues with VMs in general on my server. It all started, as far as I know, when I moved all my drives over to new hardware. When I did so, my VM was gone. First, I just created a new one and pointed it to the old vdisk.img. The VM worked fine. But, I got errors when trying to pass-thru the USB controller. The VM wouldn't boot. I created a new VM just to test and it also wouldn't start with the card passed to it. Then I noticed all these errors in the libvirt log. They persist whether the card is passed thru or not. You can see them in the diag file, but the troublesome ones are the two End of file errors that keep showing up: virNetSocketReadWire: 1826 End of file while reading data: Input/output error qemuMonitorIO:578 : internal error: End of file from qemu monitor I'm not sure what they mean and googling hasn't helped. I found one guy saying he fixed it after discovering he had two libvirt.img files. I don't have that problem. So, I'm kinda lost and would really like some insight from some of you unRAID gurus. I'm a newb! 😄 I created an entirely new Windows 10 VM and it works, but I still can't pass the USB controller to it. I've also tried the USB Manager plugin. Yep yep. I think this will work fine as an alternative to passing-thru. A little slower going over the network to access a drive that's plugged in, but at least it works! 🙂 The drive will be plugged in around 5pm each day and the backup won't run until midnight. Plenty of time for the share to show up. 🙂

Gotcha. That's exactly what I was trying to do, but it didn't seem it was sharing when I plugged it in, but I guess it just took a second to show up. Seems to be working now. Thanks!

Okay, so first, I can't pass-thru a USB controller to my VM because something is messed up (libvirt errors, but the VM runs fine) and I'm not getting much help with it, so I'm trying other methods to get what I need. Basically, I need a backup to run on a VM to an external drive. The drive plugs in via USB. I need the VM to somehow be able to "see" this drive or a share on the drive when it's plugged in. It's actually two drives that will be rotated every other day, so it can't just stay plugged in. Is there any way to get a share to happen as soon as a disk is plugged in? I have automount and share turned on, but the share doesn't appear until I restart the array. I'm thinking, if I can get a share to happen when it's plugged in, then the VM can backup to that share each night. The person who will be in charge of swapping the disks each night has nothing to do with unRAID, so they can't fiddle with settings each time. They need to just be able to unplug one drive and plug in the other. I'm all ears for other methods you can suggest! Thanks!

Okay. Something still isn't right. Even after deleting my libvirt.img file and letting unRAID recreate it. The libvirt log file has lots of errors. 😕 The VM starts and works (without the USB controller added to it), but there's still something not right with libvirt. ap-archives-diagnostics-20211129-1253.zip

So, I ended up creating a new VM and pointed it to the old img and it worked. So, I guess I'm good on that. New problem is that I can't get the VM to boot when I pass through a usb controller. New thread started in the VM troubleshooting forum. Thanks!

Further testing... I tried creating a new Windows 10 VM with the same settings and passing through the controller and it also won't boot. So, it's not the VM img. Not sure if that's good or bad. 😕

I'm still very new to VMs (and unRAID too, for that matter). I have an existing VM that has run for 6 months or more. No issues. I moved everything to a new server build and got the existing VM running again. That took some doing as it appeared my libvirt file was corrupted and the VM didn't appear in the VMs list. I configured a new VM and pointed it to the old vm img and it worked fine. So, the next step was to pass through an add-on PCI USB controller. I did as Spaceinvader One did in this video (although the VFIO plugin is built-in). I have the controller showing in the VM config and added it, but now the VM won't start. Sorry for the slow reply. I've had a ton of data to move around on the new build. Here are the diagnostics. I don't mind building a new VM and reinstalling Windows (previous Windows install had a couple issues). I'm just not sure what to do with my apparently botched libvirt file. I moved my USB and disks to new hardware. All disks are present as are the files on them when I boot up on the new hardware. Everything seems fine, but when I go to VMs, it says none are installed. vdisk1.img and libvirt.img files are still on the same shares they've always been. I'm not sure why the VM disappeared. libvirt log shows: 2021-11-24 19:47:17.013+0000: 10717: error : virNetSocketReadWire:1826 : End of file while reading data: Input/output error Does this mean my libvirt file is corrupted? 😞

I can set up the SMB with username, password, domain, etc. It shows on the MAIN tab, but when I click MOUNT, it tries and then just goes back to saying MOUNT again. I've tried connecting to different shares, with several username/password sets, by hostname and IP. Nothing works. Any help is appreciated!

Just setup Nextcloud yesterday. I'm using the Android app to auto upload my photos. It seems to have gotten down to one 3GB video that it keeps failing on with the error "Gateway Timeout." I checked the Dynamic System Temp plugin settings. It originally said 'coretemp nct6775' for Available drivers. I clicked detect and it changed to 'k10temp nct6775'. Under sensors, everything says 'Not used' as gives no other options.

Just replaced all the hardware in my server. Ryzen 3600 with x570 motherboard and 32GB RAM. The previous hardware was an older x79 mobo with 4820K. With the same plugins, etc. installed, I could see the CPU temp on the Dashboard screen. I don't see that anymore, just an infinity symbol. I see a couple errors on the boot up screen just before the login prompt. modprobe: ERROR: could not insert 'coretemp' : no such device modprobe: ERROR: could not insert 'nct6775' : no such device I'm a novice when it comes to linux/unRAID, but I do know Coretemp is software that monitors/displays CPU temps in Windows. :-D Any idea why that would be failing on this new hardware? Thanks!
