  1. Are the hot swappable drives fixed? ie: if you're not using all 20, can you convert one to a normal 5.25" bay slot? I wanted to know if I could put an IDE optical drive in rather than buy a new slim drive for that case. Thanks, rlr
  2. what does TBD mean in tested motherboard list? I didn't find anything directly about my board, I had already searched for it before I posted this. as far as nforce4 it seems to be mostly a problem with Linux users, and they say that the A8N family of boards seem to have covered the issues other nforce boards were having. There's really nothing concrete though, so I'm disinclined to use this board, unfortunately, and want to pick up one of the officially tested boards. I was unclear as to whether tbd meant level 1 tested or not, although I'd prob rather go with one that's more tested anyway since I'm buying it for this express purpose. thanks, rlr
  3. And you'd be wrong, at least concerning the A8N-SLI Premium board. I've used it since last July and it works very well. I think it is one of the best boards for unRAID. . Thanks for the info, Is there anyone else that can chime in on if there's an issue with nvidia chipset? rlr
  4. I searched for this board in this forum but only found one post which wasn't helpful. Is anyone using this board with unraid? Results? thanks, rlrp
  5. Nice to see you on the boards runLoganrun. You should be fine with that PSU and if you have to the single core athlon64. unRAID really does not take a lot of juice to run. Antec makes pretty good ones and I run a Corsair that is around 540w with about 7 disks in the array plus my cache drive. Hey Prostuff1, thanks man If everything goes well, I'll be able to order what I need next week, and put it together the following. I'm pretty stoked, I've been wanting a different storage setup for a while. talk soon, rlr
  6. Thanks guys! I'll prob be back in touch after I read up, and get started. I've got just about everything I need, I think. I've got a case, a really cheap case, which will get me going but will be an interim measure, right now I need to spend the least possible to bring it online, and I have a mobo that I need to get a new bios chip from asus for, a questionable opti 170 dual core or for a backup maybe a 2.0 single core athlon64, I wasn't sure if that one would cut it though. other stuff: ocz gold ddr500, 2x1G, a 500w antec HE, about 4TB of media. I think that the 500w psu should be sufficient for my immediate needs. I want to start with 5-6 1TB drives plus the parity, there won't be any power hungry gpu's or anything. rlr
  7. Hello unraid community, I've been reading up on Unraid, in general, and want to build a unraid server, it appears to be an excellent storage solution, and seems much easier, and safer, to expand, than raid. I looked around this site and saw a lot of posts, and it's probably been right in front of my face, but I can't seem to locate any type of guide or manual regarding installation or setup, or actual specs on what is needed. I need to get a better idea of the install process, but also need to know details like how many drives before I need another parity drive, etc. If this exists and I'm just not seeing it, can someone please point me in the right direction, or a close proximity? thanks a lot, rlr
