  1. I'm about to scan in a few thousand pages and I'm hoping someone can recommend an application for OCR and overall management. I was reading about Paperless but it seems it's gone from CA and is quite difficult to get working in unRAID. any recommendations?
  2. Paperless is missing from the Community Applications. Does anyone know how I can find it? Or can you recommend another document management app?
  3. As soon as I change it back to 'Private' I get the prompt to 'Enter Windows Credentials'. As for now it's working even as I have the Security set to 'Secure'. I just have to set it to 'Private' in order to be prompted for my username and password. Maybe because I'm still on V 6.6.7 ? Fortunately I don't have a need for more than one user for this unRAID server. But i'm surprised it would be this difficult to connect to unRAID from Windows 10 even just if you use it as a NAS.
  4. Ok so I figured out the issue. Here is what I did: 1. created a user in unRAID with the same user name as my Windows10 PC. (different password) 2. in unRAID changed the SMB Security Settings/SMB User Access for the Media share to give my new user read/write access and security type to "Private" (this is very important, you must use PRIVATE not SECURE) 3. rebooted my pc. 4. opened command prompt and typed "net use * /delete" just to make sure credentials were cleared out. 5. opened the network drive share (\\tower\Media in my case) in Windows Explorer by clicking on the location field at the top and typing in "\\tower" (what I named my unRAID box) Then the Media folder will show up. When opened the contents will show up but when you try to make an edit (add a New Folder) it then prompts me for username and password. The important thing here is to set the share's security to "Private" in order to initially establish the connection. If you use "Secure" you will not get a prompt to enter a Username and Password. You will just get a denied pop-up and have no way to authenticate: You must establish the connection by using security: "Private." Then, once connected you can change it to "Secure" I'm not sure why you would use Secure over Private as there seems to be no actual difference. I feel like unRAID should add a note next to the Security type selection field saying you must choose Private if you are connecting unRAID as a network share for the first time. Will save hours of headache for what should be the most basic feature of a NAS solution. Hope this helps someone else struggling with this.
  5. I have to leave my shares set to Public. If I set them to Secure then I can not write to them. When I try I get this pop-up. This used to work. It used to ask me for a username and password but no longer does. I've cleared out all credentials in Windows Credentials Manager. I've ran the "New Permissions" tool. Is it because my unRAID trial is expired? This is one of the most basic features in any NAS and it's not working. Very frustrating. I've read the nearly 20 posts just like this but can't find a solution. Why would this just start after a month of working properly? Here is how I have my media share set up:
  6. Hey @maxse I just read through this whole thread. It was interesting watching you lean and grow as the thread progressed. Brought a tear to my eye. 😥 Anyhow.. I'm interested in setting us something very similar at a friend's place. I can probably convince them to change out their main router/firewall to an Edgerouter or an USG. But if you don't mind could you give a little summary of what you decided to do? And what equipment and applications you will use? I like the idea of waking the backup server through IPMI as well. I'm running my array disks as xfs encrypted at my home unRAID box. Not sure if that matters and I'd like to keep the backup server as light as possible. I'm considering at site-to-site L2TP IPsec VPN between the two routers and just allowing one VLAN to utilize the tunnel. Please give us an update? 🙏
  7. OK good to know. I'm still on 6.6.7.
  8. To follow up on this I've recently learned that if you use a cache pool with a different file system than the array (like btrfs) when you run the Mover some docker containers / applications become unresponsive. For example when my Mover starts Plex will no longer be able to play anything til the Mover is finished. Even if the movie files were already living on the array. I may remove one cache drive due to this until its resolved. (if it can be resolved)
  9. Hi, I'd like to back-up my Plex data since I've spent so much time organizing and adding custom posters, names etc. What options do I have for this? I already have "Backup/Restore Appdata" running every night but where would I find the folder with the posters, thumbnails, naming etc? I'm not talking about the movie / TV files. Just the artwork, posters, namings, etc.
  10. Update. I changed the Preferences.xml file as instructed and still cant access. Is my only option to delete the Plex Container and start a new one? I spent a few days doing custom naming and artwork on my media. this would be quite disappointing if I have to start all over because I changes my password?
  11. Seems like many people run into this. Plex should really warn people never to change their password. Sort of poor security if you ask me. After updating my password, checking the box to "sign out all connected accounts" when I log back into Plex I get this message: Apparently many people have this issue. For example: here: https://forums.plex.tv/t/changed-plex-password-now-server-is-unreachable/166490 and here: https://forums.plex.tv/t/can-not-connect-to-server-after-changing-password/293734/2 and here: https://forums.plex.tv/t/cant-claim-media-server-after-password-reset/348671 Plex says I need to edit my Preferences.xml file like this: https://support.plex.tv/articles/204281528-why-am-i-locked-out-of-server-settings-and-how-do-i-get-in/ But when I try to (accessing from Windows 10) it says I don't have permission. Any ideas? And why would this be so poorly designed?
  12. Update!!! Got it working. I forgot to add the VLAN number to the "vid" field on the Edgerouter's switch0 for the Switch's trunk port. As soon as I added 50 the Plex WebUI lit up. 🤘 Victory! I can also confirm that I CAN ping from my PC on VLAN10 to the Plex Container on VLAN50.
  13. So how I understand your post: in order to access the Plex server locally from your PC, both Plex and the PC would have to be in the same Subnet / VLAN. And any IoT device accessing Plex would have to be on the same Subnet / VLAN. For example. I'd have to put my Roku, PC, phone, laptop (for viewing) and Plex all on the same Subnet / VLAN. I must understand you incorrectly for this seems quite limited and a security issue.
  14. Hey Hoopster, I used this method last night and am having some trouble. I posted in that thread. I can't connect to Plex since I made these changes. Any ideas? See my posts here:
  15. has something changed for 6.6.7? I tried this tonight but lost WebUI access (and all access) to my Plex Container. I've been running Plex just fine. From my secure LAN (VLAN10) desktop I can't ping Plex (192.168.50.3) or Docker (192.168.50.2) but I can ping the unRAID server (192.168.10.69). My router firewall rules are set up so I can ping any subnet from VLAN10. I have an EdgerouterX. Here is my setup. Please let me know what I'm doing wrong. unRAID is connected to switch port 2.
  16. I'm trying to understand how Docker manages the segregation of the containers. Few Questions: - Are Containers on the same subnet able to ping one another? - Is there some firewall rule ability in Docker? - Can you run different subnets for each Container? - If my unRAID server runs in VLAN10 can I make a Docker Container in VLAN20 within the .20.xx subnet? - Are all these networks just managed by my network Router? Or are there some settings in unRAID I need to do?
  17. Update! I got it working! This time with much less whining on the forums as usual 😃 It was GDM Network Discovery!! I had to open a destination port range to my Plex server's IP address. Ports 32410 to 32414. So I'm allowing GDM port range 32410-32414, UDP to my Plex IP address! I'm allowing 32400 and 8324 also to the Plex IP. Thanks @Hoopster for looking at it with me.
  18. Update: I unexpectedly figured it out. This time with much less whining on the forums as usual 😃 It was GDM Network Discovery!! I had to open a destination port range to my Plex server's IP address. Ports 32410 to 32414. I didn't have to list anything in the Source tab. My current rule blocks all traffic between VLANs but already allows traffic FROM VLAN10 to anywhere.
  19. I CAN actually specify a 2nd DNS server on my router. I didn't know what that was for! So that's like a failover DNS field? Wow. I'm going to use 8.8.8.8 and do a test.
  20. Yes, Pi-Hole is also giving me problems on unRAID. When I shut down the server I have to manually go into my router and change the DNS settings for 4 different subnets or I get locked out internet connections. I think having Pi-Hole on a RPi is a much better option.
  21. Well that is a bit more comforting to know others are sharing main LAN subnets with IoT devices. Before I deployed my unRAID server I spent a couple weeks segregating my network. I read so many warnings on why you need to do that it scared me probably more than it should. It was a MASSIVE pain to set up. I haven't even started to do any remote connections (outside of my home) yet. I'm still trying to get things working here. I'm starting to think it's a waste of time to have all these VLANs. The amount of time I've spent on it I could have restored all my data from backups ten times over.
  22. Thanks @Hoopster, Ok, question for you. Do you segregate your IoT devices? (Your smart TV, Nvidia Shield, ect) from your unRAID server? The easiest thing for me to do it just place my Roku and Smart TV on my Secure LAN but I'm hoping not to. It seems VLANs are maybe more trouble than they are worth. Every application I add (Pi-Hole, Plex) turns into a week long fight with firewall rules, etc. Thoughts?
  23. Thanks Squid. So I've posted this question in several forums. Redit, Ubiquiti, etc. And People keep posting that link. However, what I'd like to do is connect the Plex server running on VLAN10 (192.168.10.3) to the Roku on the IoT network VLAN30 (192.168.30.13). I want to directly connect the two. I don't want to send the movie to Plex's server, then have it come back to my Roku that's sitting right next to the server. I imagine this is quite common where someone would configure their network to have their IoT devices (Roku, Shield, Vero 4K+) on a VALN secured from their management network. And I've seen this question asked on the Ubiquiti forums about a dozen times but they don't come up with a solution. I was able to pass all my DNS traffic through my VLAN for Pi-Hole with the firewall rule that I posted above. I'm hoping that it's a similar solution but I want to make sure I have both unRAID and Plex server configured properly so I can rule them out as the issue. Does this make sense?
  24. So I added a rule to ALLOW TCP to DESTINATION address 192.168.10.3 (my Plex server on unRAID) and port: 32400. Am I setting this up wrong? What IP do I need to open the port for? The Roku's or the Plex server's? Or my unRAID's server? And is it a "DESTINATION" or a "SOURCE"?
