  1. I was playing around with this password protection just to test the effects, but wanted to set it back to no password. Is there a way to disable the password for root once a password has been set? I tried to save it with just a blank password box, but it still requested that I put in root as the username and had to leave the password box blank (same with accessing via telnet), whereas before no access box every popped up and in telnet I just had to put root and no need to enter a blank password. I know it is slightly off topic, so i apologize.
  2. Assuming you're referring to the AOC-SAS2LP-MV8 http://www.supermicro.com/products/accessories/addon/AOC-SAS2LP-MV8.cfm +1 on this question It should work fine. I have not installed this RC1, but am running a box with 2 of these cards on the latest beta with no issues. Those cards have not had any issues with any of the beta versions that I am aware of, so I would be shocked if it didn't work with this new version.
  3. I too have a Norco 4224 case, but I built my own rack. Do some googling of the Lack Rack. Ikea Lack furniture is exact width (19") to fit server equipment. My particular setup is a Lack coffee table with a Lack end table screwed on top. I dont have a picture handy now, but I have the case on top of the coffee table, mounted in between the legs of the end table and then on top I have room for a monitor and keyboard. If it is hard to picture, just goodle Lack Rack like i suggested. Easy server rack for 10-30 dollars.

  5. CORSAIR Enthusiast Series TX650 V2 650W Promo code EMCNGJE23 gets you down to $74.99, and then on top of that thiere is a $15 mail in rebate on this product bringing the final price down to $59.99.
  6. Rajahal, I just saw on another forum that they were out of stock earlier but seems that they are taking orders once again. NodNarb012, I honestly know nothing about this server, I just ran across it over at slickdeals.net which I check every morning and figured it might interest a person or two over here. They have a 12 page thread going over there about it right now and skimming through I see they are sharing some of their experience with it. You can probably get a good idea about what it can and cant do from there. http://slickdeals.net/f/4064978-HP-ProLiant-N40L-Ultra-Micro-Tower-Server-System-658553-w-AMD-Turion-II-Neo-N40L-1-5GHz-2GB-DDR3-250GB-HDD-180-Free-Shipping?
  7. They are $129.99 right now on Amazon with free 2 day shipping for prime members. They also have a 5 year warranty on them. Your price might not be right, especially considering that for an extra $20 people could get an extra 3 years of warranty. I do agree though, solid drive. Would make a good cache drive if you are looking for one.

  9. Great. Thanks for the quick response. My complete hardware list is basically exactly the 20+ budget build rack mount on your website. ECS board, 2 SASLP cards, Norco 4224. Only thing different is that I beefed up the RAM and CPU a bit to ensure that it would work smoothly using the cache to run a few applications including the ps3 media server.
  10. Quick question for you Johnm. Probably not the right place for this, but I see you mention you are running beta 5 with no issues and similar hardware. I am running similar hardware to this post and am using 2xSuperMicro AOC-SASLP-MV8 cards also. I am looking to upgrade to a beta 5 version in the next few weeks but after some quick reads in the beta forums it looks like there are some issues with these cards in the newest betas. Just curious what version you are running. You on version 12 or are you able to run 14 with no issues. Thanks for the info!
  11. It sounded like from the Move thread in the announcement section, that part of the business move to CA has to do with getting a supplier to provide Limetech branded servers. At least, I think I recall reading that there.
  12. Yes, green drives inside. Too late anyway. Not only are they sold out, but the cancelled my order that I placed around 7:00 am this morning. Just got the order cancellation email from their customer service about 10 min ago.
  13. Just got back from the Fry's in the Chicago suburbs and they still have some in stock. They were a bit stingy on their one per customer limit and would not let me check out with 2 hard drives. I actually had to purchase one, put it in my car, and then go back in and purchase a second. They also had a seagate 2tb onsale for $99, but it is also in store only. http://www.frys.com/product/6618974?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG
  14. Use this link. I used Allen Park, MI as a test lookup since someone in the forum over at slick deals mentioned that store, and it still shows in stock there. There are probably not many left after they had the sale on these online last week, but you might luck out and find one in a store near you. http://www.staples.com/office/supplies/StaplesStoreInventory?storeId=10001&catalogId=10051&langId=-1&partNumber=901971
