  1. For completeness of this thread I found this also. On the flash drive edit the file /config/share.cfg (notepad will work fine to do this) shareCacheEnabled="yes" Save and reboot. I had this set to no. There probably is a setting in the gui somewhere for this also.
  2. Interesting. When I made a share called /mnt/cache/domains, The directory showed up on my cache disk but not under user shares on the management page. I then tried mkdir /mnt/user/domains and the directory was created in user shares. I then made it a cache only disk. When I made a directory /mnt/cache/isos, The directory shows up both on the cache disk and as a user share on the management page. There was something odd with "domains" I guess I am trying to recreate what I probably deleted in the past as docker and vm templates often install to these directories. Are there other specifically named directories that are usually created automatically besides domains, isos, and system? I appreciate all the help.
  3. I have docker and VM services enabled with many dockers and a single VM. My guess is that I deleted them long ago. What is the best way to get them back? Thanks
  4. Cannot see the shares domains, iso and system listed under my user shares. From my reading, these were automatically created shares (are these the only automatically created shares?). When I try to create them in user shares, nothing happens. I tried mkdir /mnt/user/domains and cmd returned No medium found If I make a test share with mkdir/mnt/user/domains, the test share is created as expected. What is the best way to restore or create the shares above? Thanks
  5. Having problems with the helper script. I have tried a couple of times starting fresh but still have issue. I tried changing the vm name in my script as per the docker name but still get the error below. I am sure it is something stupid:) Any help appreciated. Thanks
  6. I don't see a dropdown for vdisk capacity in my unraid gui like in the video. What am I doing wrong?
  7. I currently sync a cache drive folder with an array folder using rsync. Is there a way to do this with a docker with a graphical interface? Thanks
  8. I have some duplicati questions as I migrate from crashplan. 1. I see that some people use an ftp plugin with duplicati. What is the reason to use an ftp plugin on unraid? I just pointed the folder path in client duplicati install to unraid local ip\disk\folder. Is there a downside to this? 2. What file transfer speeds can one expect? For example, how long should it take to backup and recover 1 terabyte of data over gigabit lan? Is network performance or write speed the bottleneck for speed? 3. I assume that one only needs the duplicati docker if backing up the unraid server to the cloud. What cloud services have people used? 4. Finally, anyone find any other good options other than duplicati for backing up a bunch of windows machines to unraid? Does anyone just use windows backup? Thanks for the help
  9. I cannot create a new vm with a different MAC or change it on the vm that I have. You get the error... XML error: expected unicast mac address, found multicast I am new at this and don't know the difference between unicast and multicast. Will research a bit. Thanks
  10. No. I have the same issue. I tried to change the redhat network adapter Mac address but that does not seem to change the mac address that windows uses. Is there a way to change the vm mac address? I tried to edit xml and got warnings about using multicast address. Thanks
  11. steve 1977 In terms of VM tab not showing up, you do not have to enable user shares. You just have to have libvirt.img in a path. If you enter something like below in VM settings, the file will be automatically created. /mnt/cache/libvirt.img See this post if you want more details. https://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=47675.0
  12. Ha I followed the great guide. My mistake was connecting via tightVNC to unraid server IP and not the virtual machine IP. Fairly idiotic I know. Thanks
  13. Great guide. My only problem is that when connecting to the osx guest from windows 10 machine with vnc there is a bad mouse offset and the host cursor is not in sync with the guest cursor. I tried tightvnc and same behavior. Any suggetions? <domain type='kvm' xmlns:qemu='http://libvirt.org/schemas/domain/qemu/1.0'> <name>OSX-El-Capitan-10.11-VNC</name> <uuid>0ba39646-7ba1-4d41-9602-e2968b2fe36d</uuid> <metadata> <type>None</type> </metadata> <memory unit='KiB'>4194304</memory> <currentMemory unit='KiB'>4194304</currentMemory> <vcpu placement='static'>2</vcpu> <cputune> <vcpupin vcpu='0' cpuset='1'/> <vcpupin vcpu='1' cpuset='2'/> </cputune> <resource> <partition>/machine</partition> </resource> <os> <type arch='x86_64' machine='pc-q35-2.3'>hvm</type> <kernel>/mnt/cache/OSX Virtual Machine/enoch_rev2795_boot</kernel> <boot dev='hd'/> <bootmenu enable='yes'/> </os> <features> <acpi/> </features> <cpu mode='custom' match='exact'> <model fallback='allow'>core2duo</model> </cpu> <clock offset='utc'/> <on_poweroff>destroy</on_poweroff> <on_reboot>restart</on_reboot> <on_crash>destroy</on_crash> <devices> <emulator>/usr/bin/qemu-system-x86_64</emulator> <disk type='file' device='disk'> <driver name='qemu' type='raw'/> <source file='/mnt/cache/OSX Virtual Machine/ElCapitan.img'/> <target dev='hda' bus='sata'/> <address type='drive' controller='0' bus='0' target='0' unit='0'/> </disk> <controller type='usb' index='0'> <address type='pci' domain='0x0000' bus='0x02' slot='0x01' function='0x0'/> </controller> <controller type='sata' index='0'> <address type='pci' domain='0x0000' bus='0x00' slot='0x1f' function='0x2'/> </controller> <controller type='pci' index='0' model='pcie-root'/> <controller type='pci' index='1' model='dmi-to-pci-bridge'> <address type='pci' domain='0x0000' bus='0x00' slot='0x1e' function='0x0'/> </controller> <controller type='pci' index='2' model='pci-bridge'> <address type='pci' domain='0x0000' bus='0x01' slot='0x01' function='0x0'/> </controller> <interface type='bridge'> <mac address='52:54:00:00:20:30'/> <source bridge='br0'/> <model type='e1000-82545em'/> <address type='pci' domain='0x0000' bus='0x02' slot='0x03' function='0x0'/> </interface> <input type='mouse' bus='ps2'/> <input type='keyboard' bus='ps2'/> <graphics type='vnc' port='-1' autoport='yes' websocket='-1' listen='0.0.0.0' keymap='en-us'> <listen type='address' address='0.0.0.0'/> </graphics> <video> <model type='vmvga' vram='16384' heads='1'/> <address type='pci' domain='0x0000' bus='0x00' slot='0x01' function='0x0'/> </video> <memballoon model='none'/> </devices> <seclabel type='none' model='none'/> <qemu:commandline> <qemu:arg value='-device'/> <qemu:arg value='usb-kbd'/> <qemu:arg value='-device'/> <qemu:arg value='usb-mouse'/> <qemu:arg value='-device'/> <qemu:arg value='isa-applesmc,osk=ourhardworkbythesewordsguardedpleasedontsteal(c)AppleComputerInc'/> <qemu:arg value='-smbios'/> <qemu:arg value='type=2'/> </qemu:commandline> </domain>
  14. Per the upgrade instructions for 6.2, I want to back up my virtual machines. This is probably a stupid question but what is the best way to do this. Do I just copy the xml file to notepad and save it or is there more to it than this? Thanks
  15. Tried to update docker and my docker disappeared. Now when I try to reinstall I get the following. Running unraid 6.1.9 My / config file is on /mnt/cache/App Data/Crashplan/. /backup is on one of my disks. Not sure what I am doing wrong. Any help appreciated.
  16. For follow up, I discovered my issue by reading a different thread (see below). Setting the bios to onboard let the VM use the PCIE as described. This is amazing!
  17. Thanks. I think I understand. Just for clarification... So if I start a VM (via the unraid web interface) and it has passed through local graphics, this is what will appear on a monitor plugged into the passed through graphics card?
  18. Yes. I am unsure how to access the vm from the local monitor/keyboard connected to the unraid server. The VM has been created and is running. Can you turn VM's off and switch vm's etc. Thanks
  19. I am new to the vm world. I have a windows 10 VM working great. I get to it from windows remote. I am uncertain how to start it from the actual local unraid server console? One other question: Do most run antivirus software on the VM? Thanks
  20. How do you know if you get code 43 error if the VM don't start? When I first installed the graphics card I had a virtual machine running with hyper-V on and got the code 43 error. When I turned hyper-v off, the vm started. Then I installed nvidia drivers and on reboot, the machine would not start. Going to borrow a different card from a friend and try different hardware. Thanks.
  21. Tried windows 7 without success. 22. Any other advice? The only way the VM starts is with Hyper-V set to yes. But with it set to yes, I get the dreaded code 43 error. Have tried i440fx and Q35. I have edited xml for vm to supply gpu ROM manually. Maybe just not possible with my hardware??
  23. I have been using windows remote desktop to connect to the windows 10 VM. For some reason, with hyper-v disabled, I cannot connect to the vm with remote desktop.
  24. Thanks but no luck. VNC was disabled. I am unable to connect to the virtual machine when I disable hyper-v
