  1. Okay, powered it down and now it looks okay. I think it's safe for me to hit format? Posted picture below, new drive is drive 7.
  2. Here is my syslog. My new drive is the last drive, drive 7. syslog.txt
  3. So I added a new hard drive (powered down, assigned it, started the array, and waited for it to install the new drive) and now all my drives say unformatted? Did I do something wrong or should I hit the format button (I've attached a picture below)? Kind of scared of losing all my data. Thanks for any help.
  4. NVM I just had to click the "I'm sure" check box, lol. It's working now.
  5. I tried following the step in the wiki (powered down, swapped out the harddrive, powered back up) but I can't start the array. All I get is this on the main page: I can't click on start array to rebuild my disk 5. What am I doing wrong? My server doesn't seem to be reading anything from the parity drive or the new hard drive. Thanks for any help.
  6. It's been awhile since I bought a hard drive for this server. What 2tb harddrive do you guys recommend? Does this WD Desktop Mainstream 2TB look decent: http://www.microcenter.com/product/415197/Desktop_Mainstream_2TB_Intellipower_SATA_60Gb-s_35_Internal_Hard_Drive_WDBH2D0020HNC-NRSN Or should I spend a little more to get a WD red?: http://www.amazon.com/WD-Red-NAS-Hard-Drive/dp/B008JJLZ7G/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1395876321&sr=1-2&keywords=WD+red I remember back in the day that seagates were having quality control issues, is that the same case? Are hitachi HD good drives? Thanks for all the help.
  7. I think I got it to work. But for a reference can someone tell me which steps above is the correct order? I've attached what appears to be the smart report. What seems to be wrong with the hard drive? Is it common for western digital green hard drives to fail? smart.txt
  8. I'm not exactly sure how to obtain a smart report. I tried following the wiki but it doesn't seem like I'm doing it right. So I figured out my harddrive name is sdc and I'm guessing I have one of the newer sata controllers (I built this server in 2010)? Do I type in the console: 1. smartctl -a -A /dev/sdc 2. smartctl -a -A /dev/sdc | todos >/boot/smart.txt OR do I type in the console: 1. smartctl -t short /dev/sdc 2. smartctl -a -A /dev/sdc 3. smartctl -a -A /dev/sdc | todos >/boot/smart.txt Afterwards, I will shut down my server, pull out my flash drive and upload the smart report?
  9. I've attached the syslog below. The smart report will come later, once I get a monitor and keyboard connected to the server. There isn't a way I can do a smart report through the browser is there? Syslog.zip
  10. Is my disk5 bad? Do I need to replace the hard drive? I can transfer files over but it has inconsistent speeds. Also, I'm running unRaid 4.5.3, what's the benefit of upgrading to the newest version? It's been a long time since I've looked at the forums, but thanks for any help.
  11. Ordered the supermicro after reading the forum and this cable: 3ware .5M Multi-lane Internal (SFF-8087) SATA Breakout Cable, Forward. Thanks everyone.
  12. So I should go with the Supermicro AOC-SASLP-MV8 and upgrade my unraid to the newest version and I won't see any problems? What I'm trying to avoid the most is trouble shooting. My setup involves the supermicro C2SEA motherboard, E5400, 4gb ram.
  13. Is the adaptec 1430sa controller the best bang for you buck sata controller out there right now? It's just under a hundred dollars. I'm looking for controllers under 150, and am willing to spend more if there's a better one. I can't seem to find any other talk about another dependable sata controller right now and I'm looking to buy one. I didn't think I'd fill up 8tb... but i did. Thanks for any help! John
