December 14, 20205 yr Hello I'm trying to setup a remote datastore to save all my esxi's vms. I've already setup a share and enable the NFS service on the unRaid side. NFS Security Settings Share name: tower Export: yes Security: Private On the ESXI 7.0 Storage --> New datastore --> Mount NFS datastore Name: tower NFS Server: unraid's ip NFS share: /tower NFS version: NFS 3 Then I get this error: Failed to mount NFS datastore tower - NFS mount 192.168.88.99:/tower failed: The mount request was denied by the NFS server. Check that the export exists and that the client is permitted to mount it Also tried leaving Security: Public Add the same user on ESXI machine And used foward and back slashes / \ From what I can gather: 1) unRaid does not support NFS 4 2) ESXI can only mount shares in NFS with VMFS FS... Is this true? 3) Why login credentials only appears when I select NFS 4 on ESXI and not with NFS 3? Any help would be greatly appreciated Thanks
March 7, 20224 yr Just got this running with this settings on ESXi - no user authentication tho: Name esxi_back NFS-Server 192.168.123.123 NFS-Share /mnt/user/esxi_back NFS-Version NFS3
March 13, 20251 yr Weirdly enough, i got this working on vsphere 7 by toggling the nfs service from nfs3 to nfs4 and also changing the security from public, to private - then public again. Then i was able to mount the folder on vsphere. Not sure if doing that process restarted a service, but it works for me now.
