December 14, 20205 yr Good afternoon! I have 2 unRAID servers and I don't really need 1 of them anymore. I'd like to take the drives out of the one and put them in the other. I suppose there's no way to do this without losing the data on the drives? There are 4 drives total in the old server: 1 8TB parity 2 8TB storage drives 1 3TB storage drive They'd be going into a machine that already has an 8TB parity along with 2 more 8TB storage drives. Just wondering. Thank you!
December 14, 20205 yr Community Expert Tools - New Config will let you assign any disks however you want, and when you start the array it will build parity based on the contents of the assigned disks. Be sure you don't assign a disk with data on it to any parity slot or it will be overwritten with parity. Also note that if there are duplicate paths on the disks, the lowest numbered disk has priority for user shares.
December 14, 20205 yr Author Oh cool! Didn't know about that! I'll check it out! Was digging around the old machine and there's WAY more stuff on it than I remember. Probably going to keep it after all, but I WOULD like to remove a couple of the drives. I'm thinking I'll take the 8TB parity out and move all the stuff off one of the other 8TB drives...then I can yank those two 8TB drives out of the old server and add them to the new server. Which would be perfect. 11TB is plenty of space for the old server and I'll just shut it down...that should mitigate not having a parity drive. There's nothing on there that's SUPER mission critical, anyway. But yea. That should work. Thanks!
