Looking for a Backup unRAID Server

Featured Replies

Can anyone help specify a PC or parts for a backup unraid server.  This will only be used for offsite backups either via rsync or crahsplan.  It only needs to hold (2) Sata 3.5" drives (which I already have) and take (2) DDR2 800 memory (which I already have).  I imagine an Atom based solution would be the best.  How about VIA C7's?  Just seeing if anyone can recommend something off the top of their heads that they know (or think) might be compatible.  Thanks for your help.

Thanks, but I am looking for something even cheaper and smaller. < $200.00, most likely $125 - $150.00.

For that price range I think you'll have to just salvage spare parts from a used computer shop and/or craigslist.  Alternatively, you could follow one of my prototype designs (say the 3 bay one) and just skip the hot swap bays to save money.

That's pretty much what I did.  Same MB/CPU, different case/PS.  Came to about $160.00.  Thanks.

Craigslist might be your best bet. I should put up a want ad with specifics of what you are looking for and see how it goes. If your lucky you might even come under budget, if you find someone who's cleaning out his/her parts bin as I did.  ;D
