I think a disk has died - please help :)

Featured Replies

One of the disks in the array started reporting a lot of errors. I ran a parity check and it quit and from what I can tell it disabled the drive. A SMART check said the drive wasn't present. :(

Syslog attached. If any of the gurus here wouldn't mind taking the time to have a quick look that would be appreciated.

I do have spare drives, so can the drive/data be rebuilt? I'm running version 4.56.

Thanks in advance.

The errors you are getting, "UnrecovData HostInt 10B8B BadCRC " indicate bad checksums in communication with the disk.  It could be just a bad or loose cable to the disk.

I'd stop the array, power down, replace the cable to that disk, power up, and see if you can get a SMART report.

If yes, then you might be able to just put it back in service.

You would need to Stop the array, un-assign it, Start the array with it un-assigned, Stop the array once more, re-assign it, then re-start the array once more.  This time it will re-construct the drive that was disabled when a write to it failed.
