Helmut
Hey guys, I'm kind of in an unpleasent situation. Because I'm an idiot I neglected parity checks for the last 300 days. My array consists of 4 10 TB HDDs (one parity). Now I hear that one drive is clicking quite loud when it spins up. So I'm pretty certain it will die some time soon... Now, what do I do? Would it be better to do a parity check? Or just swap the drive as soon as possible? Help 😱 Quote Link to comment
JorgeB
Nothing to lose if you try a non correcting check. Quote Link to comment
Helmut
But is there anything to be gained? If there are no errors, all is good, but I lost time. If there are errors, Id have to rebuilt and stress the drive even more. Maybe I'm not correct here, which is why I'm asking. Thank you very much! Quote Link to comment
JorgeB
If there are no errors you could rebuild knowing for sure parity was 100% valid. Quote Link to comment
Helmut
Ok, thanks. So you would advise to run a parity check first. If there are no errors, I'll swap the disk and rebuild. If there are errors, we'll talk again? Quote Link to comment
JorgeB
If there are sync errors but no disk errors you can run a correcting check, if there are sync errors and disk errors, or just disk errors, replace the disk. 1 Quote Link to comment
