6.9 Pool feature: Add disks as you go?

Featured Replies

l'd like to keep all my (new install) NextCloud data on a pool of SSDs using the new Pool feature in 6.9. I'd like to start with one 500gb SSD. Does anyone know if can then add to that pool later as my nextcloud database grows!? As easy as you'd add to the Cache pool?

Note: I will not be moving this data to the array. It will live on these pooled SSD devices.
Checked checked the wiki documentation and could not found this.

Pools in 6.9.0 are no different in this regard to the cache pool in 6.8.3.   As long as the format is BTRFS you can add/remove disks and. change  the raid levels.

Thanks. So I can start with 500gb for NextCloud data storage. Then add a mismatching (1TB) drive later in BTRFS?

Do you know if the Backup and Restore app now has support for the new 6.9 pools?

As long as the first drive is BTRFS, yes. If you don't change any options, you will end up with 500GB of storage capacity after adding the 1TB, but it will be redundant.

See https://carfax.org.uk/btrfs-usage/

for what you can expect with various mixes of drives and RAID types.

If you want total capacity of mismatched sizes you have to use Single mode. In addition to the link given see the Cache Drive/Pool section in the FAQ for more on managing pools

Got it. I'll stick with 1TB drives for now and RAID1 for redundancy.
