Playing Overwatch on UNRAID

Featured Replies

Dear UNRAID community

The biggest concern to me is gaming and especially competitive gaming where the framerates are important.

* So when I switch to newer graphics card ffps will increase right, but should I still get such big drops?

* AMD or nVidia are with less FPS loss in UNRAID?

and here is the full story:

Today I make a proof of concept setup -  I was wondering what will be in-game penalty in terms of framerates in Overwatch.

I owned 240hz monitor playing natively in Windows on game start I keep around 240fps and then during brawling I noticed drop around 170 for second and then go back to 240hz.

When I make VM with graphics passthrough, 2nvm passthrough and CPU passthrough I achieved during game start ~ 190fps and in game I notice drop to 100fps for around 5 secs. Because of that I didn't put some additional software to records the avg fps and percent tiles because there is significant drop to what I used to play.

Im using x490 taichi, GTX 1080TI and Ryzen 9 3900x. On the primary nvme is installed windows 10 and on the secondary are all my games. Everything is running natively on windows 10. So when I did the setup in UNRAID I only passthrough those devices and I installed KVM network driver.

In cinebench r23 - natively I got around 16.5k and in UNRAD I got 16k- in windows I keep max cpu at 99% not 100% from power management. To me this is more than okay result.
