Shrink array to remove disk, disk number out of sequence

Featured Replies

I have a 114Tb 24 bay server case with 2 x Parity drives and 22 drives. I followed the shrink array to remove 1 drive, so I can use that bay to preclear disks in the future.
All my drives are SAS drives, so didn't have an option to use external adapter etc  addon to preclear new drives.
All went well and the system is now rebuilt.

Precleared the 10Tb drive and swapped out a 10Tb for the 2Tb drive all went well.

My question

Now I removed that drive from the array my disk number is out of sequence, example Parity / Parity 2 / Disk 1 / Disk 3 / disk 4 etc.
I know the system will work ok in this manner but is there a procedure to get the numbering back in sequence? disk 1 disk 2 disk 3 etc.

If anybody can point me in the right direction that be great. Thank you for all your help.

You will have to New Config, assign disks as you want, and rebuild parity

or you can New Config without parity2, check parity is valid, start, then stop, assign parity2 and rebuild it.

Would have been simpler and faster to just New Config, assign disks as you wanted, and rebuild parity.

Ok thank you for the information, I will try and have a look over the weekend and see if I can do a new config

Sorry for late response I had to change a drive and waiting for it to rebuild.
See if i can do a new config?, what I meant is, when I do it and see where the option is to  arrange drive sequence so I dont lose any data I am learning this system.

but waiting on drive rebuild at moment

parity1 is still valid if you change drive order (but change nothing else about assignments). parity2 is invalid if you change drive order.

Removing an assigned disk makes both parity invalid so that is why I didn't understand why you didn't know about New Config since it is part of either Shrink Array procedure in the wiki. What procedure did you follow?
