Why is my log file full?

Featured Replies

I noticed my RAM was showing 100% for log causing the server to not run well. I have rebooted the server then downloaded a diagnostic file (attached).

Any ideas what's causing it and how to fix it?

Thank You!!!

Stephen

You should have done it the other way around, nothing to see in the log after a reboot.

I was afraid of that, but it wouldn't do the diagnostic. The server was nearly crashed....very slowly opening pages and sometimes not opening them. I selected to download the diagnostic but after a long time it was still 'thinking' so I just ended it and rebooted before the whole thing crashed completely.

Are there any 'usual suspects'? The only major changes I've made recently is I upgraded my parity disk from a 6TB to a 12TB. My parity check has been on weekly and yesterday I changed it to monthly because it takes so long to run. Aside from that, I havn't made any major changes in a couple month and its been running fine.

If it happens again try typing "diagnostics" in the console.

I will do that. I need to start learning some of that stuff....I dont know anything about the console or how to know what to type and such. I suppose everyone with a Linux background knows all of that. I only have used Unraid and really only know the GUI. I will certainly use the console if it happens again.  THANKS!

You can easily open the console with the >_ icon on the top right:

then type diagnostics

press Enter and the diagnostics file is created on the flashdrive.

Well it has done it again. I'm trying to type diagnostics in the console but the console keeps refreshing over and over, I can only get a couple letters in before it refreshes and removes what I typed. I tried to paste it in and it seemed like that was going to work but then it refreshed and went away.

Any thoughts?  I have been watching it and my log file has been on 1%, then I havent looked in the past few days and its at 100% and the server is basically locked up. Do you have any ideas before I reboot it?

I can still use Krusader to look at stuff thats stored but thats about it and it occasionally knocks me out so i have to log back in
