December 29, 20205 yr Hi all, new to the community here. Couldn't find the answer to my question here. I am very close to the last few items for building my first unraid and had a quick question. My setup will be (4) 8TB drives, 2 parity 2 storage, with the ability to add more in the future. Cache drive will be (1) 1TB SSD My understanding is when data is written to the created share on the unraid, it is first written to the cache drive and then written to the actual storage drives. I have approximately 3TB of data to transfer onto this once built. What will happen when the cache drive fills up if I transfer it all at once? Should I consider spanning out these initial transfers over time?
December 29, 20205 yr Community Expert Each User Share has settings that control how it uses cache. The default is to not use cache. For the initial data load best if you don't use cache if you are transferring more than cache can hold. If you want to speed up the initial data load, wait until finished before assigning parity disks.
