December 30, 20205 yr Hello all, Noob here. Instead of getting a Synology- I decided to get a PC which comes with Win 10 on it If I plug in my USB with unraid on it. Am I able to use that very PC to access my unraid whilst the PC is also plugged into my TV for media center? For example- 1) My Win 10 PC sitting next to my TV and on that PC is the USB which has Unraid on it. Now, if I want to watch movies on my TV -I use my windows computer to access UNRAID to play movies on that TV ? I do not wish to use plex because plex has audio issue right now and the volume has to be raised into oblivion to feel the proper effects/soundtrack vs if I play directly via VLC or MPC player. Possible? 2) Am I able to use different size HDD and then Unraid on its own combining all of this together into one big pool? 3) Also, let's say I want to save my pictures on this "cloud" -do I have to download an app to save files here or access from here if I'm away from home? -You know how google photos/drive are- what do I do in this instance to make it act similarly?
December 30, 20205 yr Community Expert Question 1) Unraid is an Operating System. It is a NAS Operating System that hosts Virtual Machines and dockers. You can boot Unraid OS and run a Windows VM hosted on Unraid. If you boot Windows on that machine instead you can't access any Unraid storage on that same machine since Unraid won't be running.

Thank you for the response. What do I do then if I want to play movies onto my TV without using Plex -is there any option that would allow me to use MPC or like VLC player to play movies directly from my pc to tv ?
December 30, 20205 yr Community Expert If your Unraid NAS is a separate computer where you store your movies, then you can use whatever application you want on your separate PC to access those movies on the NAS. If you run Windows as a VM on your Unraid NAS then that Windows VM will also have access to files on your Unraid NAS.
