Alano
Unraid install Freenas please help me, a problem encountered by virtual Freenas under Unraid. Because I want to use zfs, and unraid does not support zfs,so I want to try install Freenas. Shielded and pass-through SATA controller (the system disk installed with freenas is also shielded and pass-through) When creating a VM, because all the hard disks including the freenas system disk are pass-through, can not add the Primary vDisk. As a result, after the system is installed and restarted, it is not possible to identify which disk is the one where the system is installed, resulting in boot failure. How should I make the right choice between i440fx and q35,Which performance is better? Excuse me, how to solve this problem, how to set the boot hard disk sequence of Unraid VM? Can anyone help me check it out? Thanks! Edited January 6, 2021 by Alano Quote Link to comment
jonp
Hi there, Why not install FreeNAS to a virtual disk and then just use the controller pass through for the disks in your ZFS array? If you want to set boot order with virtual disks, that's no problem, but with physical, I don't believe there is a method currently to do that using SeaBIOS. You can try using OVMF, but that may not work with FreeNAS. All the best, Jon Quote Link to comment

It is said that Optane is very durable. Waste utilization. At present, unraid can only use the full command line to operate zfs. Will 6.9 support zfs with UI interface? If unraid supports zfs with UI interface in the future, then I will not install the VM of freenas, which is simply great. Then I can also upgrade unraid to the Pro version. All the best. runamuk
Can you post your XML so I can fix your BOOT priority; also let me know what disk is the official boot disk. As I side note I always had more luck with Q35 if you have newer hardware. Or you can just add <boot order='1'/> under the </source> of the correct drive you want to boot from Edited January 14, 2021 by runamuk Quote Link to comment

Ok I am home now, no longer trying to do this from my phone. This is what i would like you to do. Make a V-disk (don't worry we wont be using it) This will change the XML to include the sata driver. after that we will add the boot priority to the freenas hardrive and change the boot priority of the vdisk You can repost the XML after adding this or do the following and then change the boot order of the vdisk Edited January 16, 2021 by runamuk Quote Link to comment

It worked and successfully set the boot sequence. Thank you so much for your help. Quote Link to comment
