Stop array

When I stop my array to shut it down it seems to lock up. I hit stop and it takes hours to stop. Is this normal. I just go to the command line and use power down. Is this safe.

The array will NOT stop if any of its disks are "busy"

A disk is busy if a files is open on it, or if a process has it as its current directory, or if it used as a mount-point for another disk.

If you have any add-ons running accessig files on a disk, or you logged in and "cd'd" to a data disk or the cache disk, they the array will wait (almost forever) until the disks are not busy.

Just powering down is not really safe.  You risk file-system corruption.
