AFP (Apple File Protocol)

I'll chime in with requesting AFP as well.

I never cared until just now... OS X's time machine can only backup of the network to AFP shares...

im in the same boat as this guy

NOTE: I'm not a linux guy at all! So I may be not doing anything right!

Well while waiting for this to be officially supported I thought I'd have a play and see what'd happen.

After some searching it looks like netatalk is required for the AFP shares and avahi is required to advertise this.

Packages I needed to install were:

avahi-0.6.10-i586-1.tgz

netatalk-2.0.3-i486-1.tgz

for avahi to work (well, *work*):

dbus-1.0.2-i486-3.tgz

expat-2.0.1-i486-1.tgz

Netatalk *seems* to be working as I can connect to afp://tower, except its only working as guest, and can't see the 'unraid' file systems (ie /mnt/user).

However, when starting netatalk I get errors regarding AppleTalk daemons. I think it's actually required in the kernel so I'm stuck there I'm afraid.

Oh well... it was worth a try.

Yup.. need AFP here too

Did we ever get any movement on this?  Time Machine backup is also a big selling point for me to take the plunge.

I'd be interested in this as well  :)

Count me in...

Very interested!  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

well, not interested at all....  ;)

I've actually gotten a little past this. In order to log in as a user instead of guest, you need to create an /etc/shadow file and tweak the netatalk config files a little.

Unfortunately, afpd doesn't seem able to export the FUSE filesystems (ie, the user shares), so you can only mount the raw disks this way for now.

I'm very interested in this as well. No clue why someone would post "Not interested at all" seeing all the interest in this protocol, but hey... although on a second look it seems he (jimwhite) was kidding. :-)

Bought the Pro version of unRAID and it's not working as well as I expected. I have no problems accessing the shares via SMB on my Macs, but when I try to copy large amounts of data to the RAID it chokes, but I was unable to identify the issue yet.

I would also love to see this supported.  It would allow me to use Time Machine to backup to one of the disks.

I would love AFP support also - add me to the list.

I would like AFP support too if that is what Time Machine requires.  Future Mac owner!

This feature would be neat as I have a mac too

Any news on AFP support?

I'd like this as well.

My future server will be connecting to a MAC only, as I'm running AFP right now, I know how seamless it is.

Looks like this request has been around for over a year but still nothing yet... anything? Soon?

Currently NFS is being implemented and tested so i wouldnt expect anything until that is done in reality.

I'll put a nod in here for AFP.  I'd love it.  I have 3 mac mini's and using SMB with Plex I am having issues getting iPhoto working properly on the Unraid.

Love the Unraid though!  But can we at least get a timeline on AFP, like 6 months or 6 years?

Thanks.

Thats a fair comment. I has been promised so knowing a ballpark time line is perfectly reasonable.

+1 for AFP !

Sounds like the subject of the next poll to me
