What are all the default settings on a new unRaid server?

Featured Replies

Is it documented anywhere what all of the default settings are when an unRaid server is booted for the first time?

I tried searching in the unRaid Wiki, and only found a few settings. I understand that some of the "help balloons" in the server itself may state what the default settings are, but i was hoping for a complete list.

I specifically would like to know the default settings for the use of a cache drive under user shares. Worst case i could boot a new copy of unRaid on another box and check manually.

Example:

appdata  (only)?

CommunityApplicationsAppdataBackup (prefer) ?

isos (yes)?

system (prefer)?

Thanks

I would say that the default is cache : NO for all shares as it is not mandatory to use a cache pool.

My advice :

  • appdata : Prefer
  • CA Backup of appdata : Yes or preferably outside of the server
  • CA Backup of the flashdrive : definitely outside of Unraid if possible
  • iso : it will really depend on your use case (size, how often it is accessed, ...)
  • system : Prefer

of course, other people can have another view on things.

I'm not entirely sure but it may be that appdata, system shares are created as cache-prefer when you enable dockers and domains, system shares are also when you enable VMs. That is what you normally want and these shares will be created if they don't already exist assuming you keep the defaults when you enable dockers and VMs.

Other than that, default settings for all user shares are Highwater allocation, zero Minimum Free, Cache-No, Include all. You should take the trouble to understand and set Minimum Free to larger than the largest file you expect to write to the share.
