Freezing VMs

Featured Replies

Hello,

I am new to the community but ive been building an all in one machine since 2018, I moved all my drives into this new machine only issues are VMs freeze and are needed to force quit to be shutdown. I am able to boot Windows 10 VMs with VNC enabled but my ethernet says I'm disconnected. I am able to boot from NVME windows 10 drive on baremetal and VM with VNC, but VMs freeze when I enable a graphics card. I have two I tried, both bios I dumped from the help of space invader ones Vbios dump video.

I am able to boot to a login screen with either graphics cards enabled, but the VM freezes seconds later. Or when I try and enter my login info. I have tried many ram amounts 2g-20g nothing. CPU pinning with different amounts 2-10 cores had no change as well.

Thank you for any help you can give.

I'm assuming HVM / IOMMU is enabled? from the logs it appears it is.

Change your PC from I440FX to Q35.

If that dose not work. Go to setting -> VM >(advanced tab) PCIe ACS override - set to - to both. Then redo your VM

Are you trying to passthrough an NVMe drive?

Yes, HVM/IOMMU is enabled.

I changed it from I440FX to Q35 resulting in a much more stable boot. However I AM trying to passthrough an NVMe drive. I use it to boot baremetal on the same machine, no issues. Booting the machine in the settings you suggested allows me to boot to a VNC of windows 10 from the NVMe drive. Its is only when I try and add a Graphics cards does it start show issues. I dumped both card's vbios using Spaceinvaderone's script from his youtube tutorial. link at the bottom.

I receive the error you stated.

(0000:07:00.0)Unrecoverable error detected. Please collect any data possible and then kill the guest

I attempted to redump  the 3080 card vbios resulting in rom: Input/output error, with this in the lines
error: internal error: Unknown PCI header type '127' for device '0000:01:00.0'

I then attempted to redump the 1070 card vbios resulting in rom : input/output error

saying the fix was to bind them to VFIO. (both VGA and Sound was and is successfully bound.)

Thinking I needed to reset both cards, I dump a diag log before attempting a reset on these cards.

so I attempted to run the reset script. and my system crashed. I rebooted from the reset switch and now Everything works expects when attatching the 3080 as a graphics card. I am able run the vm with the 3080 attatched just not as the only graphics source. No video out from the 3080 with the vm running, but the other graphic source displays correctly. No detection in the VM of the the 3080 either. Not sure what the issue is.

Real quick

I am able to boot into the VM with the 3080 displaying graphics, With the 1070 in the primary graphics slot and the 3080 in the 2nd graphics slot set in the vm settings.

1070 cannot be found by windows 10.
