Gico
Which parity disk is sensitive to the data disks sequence? Is it always parity 2? I want to replace my parity disks one by one with larger ones, and while doing this change data disks sequence + add an empty slot, So preferably do that when the parity that's sensitive to the data disks sequence is replaced and rebuilt. trurl
When doing New Config, Parity2 is invalid if any data disk assignments are changed in any way, Parity1 is valid as long as no data disks are removed or added. 1 Quote Link to comment
Gico
OK, so it's parity 2. Do I need new config? I thought to do all this changes in one array stop: Data disks assignment changes (only sequence changes, no additions/removals/replaces), add new empty slot, un-assign parity 2, assign the new disk as parity 2, and start the array to rebuild parity 2. Parity 1 should remain valid. Quote Link to comment
trurl
To change any assignments you have to New Config. New Config, unassign parity2, assign all other disks as you wish, but make sure all data disks you had before are assigned with none removed and none added. Parity1 will be valid, so check the parity is valid box and start the array. Then, stop the array, assign parity2, start the array to begin rebuild of parity2. 1 Quote Link to comment
Gico
Done, parity2 replaced. This procedure can be done with parity1 too, right? New Config, un-assign parity1, check the parity is valid box and start the array. Then stop the array, assign new parity1 disk, start the array to begin rebuild of parity1. Quote Link to comment
trurl
You could have done both parity at once. Do not New Config, just assign new parity1 and start the array to begin rebuild Quote Link to comment
Gico
OK - No New Config. As for both parity at once - I wanted to have one valid parity while synching. Quote Link to comment
