Unraid for NAS & Primary Windows Machine?

Featured Replies

I am operating  off of a QNAP NAS for the purposes of storage/file sharing / plex. I also have a primary machine (listed below) and was trying to better understand if unraid was the right approach to a significantly more robust NAS, but still host a windows instance via VM? Is that a correct use? If so, could I maintain my existing windows instance in the conversion?

I am planning on adding drives with larger capacity and would like to get out of the RAID dependency. That being said - I dont  have the funds for a standalone build. Was just trying to see if I could combine the two given I dont game a whole lot.

Thank you for your time and patience.

Primary Machine:

Ryzen 2600

TUF X570 Plus with Wifi

32GB RAM (3200Mhz)

RX570 (hopefully upgrading soon)

1 TB Samsung EVO SSD

QNAP - 2 bay

2 - 4TB WD Reds with ~26k hours
