High disk temp 62C - 55C

Hi 

 

i have just setup my unraid build and I am seeing very high disk temp. What level of temp. one should be generally seeing and what point should I be worried about

Aim for 40C, 45C tops, those are definitely too hot, you need to improve cooling.

at the moment my case is open so ample of air flow ...any suggestions on what to do about cooling?

Open case isn't good for disk cooling, you need good airflow and fans moving air over and around the disks.

Close the case and recheck temp. All airflow through the case must pass by the drives, if not, you need to seal up any openings that allow air get through without cooling the drives.

If in doubt, post a picture of your case, lid on and off, with arrows showing fan flow direction.

this is how my current drives are in the bay , the case is R6 define, shall I have more spacing between them to improve air flow

Spacing not relevant.

We need to see the overall picture of how air moves through the case.

Basic 'rule of thumb' for cooling servers.  All air entering the case should first pass over the drives.  All fans behind this(these) entry point(s) the drives should be blowing air out of the case.  Any fans between the entry point of the air and the drives should be blowing air into the case.  There should be one point of entry for air into the server.  (although this might be the entire front panel of the server--- this is usually the norm for most computer cases.)

One major isssue was the tray design problem, disk bottom side around motor was hottest area, but the tray just cover it.

You can do some test without tray, just keep air flow at disk bottom side.

The airflow is as above. Currently temp. is at 40C (parity), 40C (Data), 36C (Data). Yesterday Parity build was running and now completed

As long as you keep the case closed, you should be fine.
