ytddewqf
Hello all, I have managed to get my Win10 VM up and running and playing nice with my 3090. Whilst I'm getting to grips with a VM, one thing that has immediately struck me is the extreme slow down the VM has when actioning any task. The below is whilst I install Flight Simulator 2020; It's worth noting that I have few active dockers running in the background, certainly none that are causing any slow downs. My machine has an i9-10900k CPU with 64gb RAM (32gb allocated to this VM). My HDD's could do with an upgrade and so with the issue above, what would be the best step (I'm assuming the HDD's are at fault)? I currently have two 10TB HDD's (mechanical) and one 500GB M.2. My shares are setup as follows; Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Edited January 23, 2021 by LoneTraveler Quote Link to comment

Hi, I have the Domains folder set to Yes for "Use cache pool (for new files/directories)", however the actual vdisk image is currently showing as on the array; Do you think it is worth me reducing the vdisk size from 500GB and having bit solely on the cache? JorgeB
If it can fit on cache it should definitely be there, vdisks on the array will have very bad performance due to parity. 1 Quote Link to comment

Many thanks. I have tried to reduce my vdisk1.img size from 500GB to 250GB however I'm not having much luck. I've stopped the VM and tried in the GUI, however it will only allow me to increase the size, not reduce; I have also tried several commands directly in the terminal however that didn't work either; I have ensured that within the VM, the partition has been reduced to 250GB and the remaining unused space is unallocated. ***EDIT*** This command worked for me to shrink the vdisk; qemu-img resize -f raw --shrink "/mnt/user/domains/Windows 10/vdisk1.img" 250G Edited January 20, 2021 by LoneTraveler Quote Link to comment
ytddewqf
I've moved over the vdisk to the M.2, I'm sure things will speed up once everything settles down. I've ordered a 2TB Sabrent M.2 solely for my VM. Do you think if I change the VM option from SCSI to something else, would that make any difference? My Sabrent 2TB M.2 is installed and passed through to the VM as a dedicated drive, things are so much faster! Many thanks. Edited January 23, 2021 by LoneTraveler 1 Quote Link to comment
