Hi!

I can boot my unRAID and it seems to have long access times on shares but still accessible. Random amount of time later, from a few minutes to about 30 minutes the shares lists but when I try to enter any of them I'm locked out. It just keeps spinning and searching. When I try to reboot unRAID it gets stuck at trying to force a shutdown but nothing happens after that.

I have tried:

1. Memtest86 (30+ h)

2. Short SMART test on all drives.

3. Long SMART test on 3 drives (so far).

4. Scrub all drives.

5. Updated firmware on my HBA. (Supermicro LSI3008)

6. Two different clients.

7. Different network switch.

8. Checked firmware on SSD Cache.

9. tail -f /var/log/syslog but got nothing. Nothing showed when i get locked out.

And A LOT more stuff but its been a few days.

My unRAID server is a Supermicro x9SRL-F, E5-1650 v2, 16GB ECC system.

And for the life of me I can't seem to find whats wrong with my OS.

What else can i try?

I'm unclear about your description.

Does the problem occur when running Unraid "bare metal"?

Sorry for being unclear. Just both as a VM and bare metal. the reason started within the VM and i went over to bare metal just to troubleshoot but the problem was just like when i ran it as a VM within ESXi7.0u1.

Please leave running Unraid as a VM out of this discussion. If you want to discuss that we have a subforum for that purpose.

So, please clarify what parts of your original post in this thread pertains to running Unraid bare metal. In fact, please restate exactly that in your next post in this thread and we can go from there.

I removed the first chapter of my post. Is this what you meant? All I meant was that the OS is the same install as the VM. It's just a direct boot without ESXi involved. But it is the very same usb thumb drive. So no reinstall or nothing.

Nevermind, I see you have something about that in smb-extra.cfg

Do the problems occur if you remove that?

Even when the array is stopped the rootshare is listed in SMB. I found it somewhere.. but to be honest i don't remember why i did enable it. i will remove it now. Also i just removed preclear because i read here in the forums that it could be worth a try while troubleshooting and getting that error while trying to stop the array.

New Diagnostics in main post.

@trurl To be honest i don't know what fixed it but now at least i can stop the array without forcing a reboot.

I did change a few things. i removed a nerdpack script i used to give it a try. it was on the cache drive so that might have been something there. also removed preclear plugin, also removed vmtools plugin, and also removed smb-extra.

i will give it a try tomorrow but i need to get to bed right now.

Thank you for helping! :)
