Flash drive failed - No backup other than on array

Featured Replies

I blew it.  I'm new to Unraid.  I don't have a backup of my flash drive off of my array.  I did set up CA backup/restore but I think it's backing up my flash to the array, if I remember correctly.  Is there anything I can do to get the backup off of the array?

Set up a new flash as trial.  Assign all drives as "data"  Start the array.  DO NOT attempt to format anything listed as unmountable.

You now will have access to all your shares and can grab the backup.

Does the procedure differ if I have two parity drives?  Still assign all drives as data?  I read through the page "https://wiki.unraid.net/UnRAID_6/Changing_The_Flash_Device" and it mostly makes sense.  I have 12 spindle drives, 2 of which are parity.  So I should assign all 12 as data and expect that 2 will be unmountable?

I was able to copy the flash drive backup folder.  I saw somewhere that I need to replace the config folder on my trail flash drive with the one from the backup.  Is this correct?  I assume that means I need to power down the server to do so?

Safest to do that.  Probably not necessary though.

Right.  OK just to confirm though, I just need to replace the config folder?  It's that simple?  Or should I be replacing everything?

Assuming that the trial flash and your lost flash are the same version (and no passed through devices to a VM), then only config is needed.  But, it doesn't hurt to redo everything.

To redo everything, replace the entire contents of the flash with everything in the backup folder?  Straight copy, nothing more?

And if I replace everything, I assume that will overwrite my trial key?   I plan to go to Best Buy tomorrow to pick up a new permanent flash drive.   The one I’m using now is temporary.

Apparently there is more to it then that because the server will not boot after replacing the drives contents.  Any suggestions?

will not boot as in it does not display the unraid boot screen? If that is the case, run makebootable on the flash drive for whatever operating system you are running.

For the past few weeks since this issue first happened, Unraid has been randomly freezing to the point where I need to hold the power button and hard reboot the server.  I have no idea how to troubleshoot this issue.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

I got this in my email @ 2:05 AM
/bin/sh: line 1: 13184 Killed                  /usr/local/emhttp/plugins/dynamix/scripts/monitor &> /dev/null

I also got this in my email starting at 2:05 AM and repeating a few times per hour since:

/bin/sh: line 1: 13181 Killed                  /etc/rc.d/rc.diskinfo --daemon &> /dev/null

I also have a very large amount of syslog, none of which means anything to me.  This appears to be the start of the issue:

2021-02-1802:01:39 Alert UNRAID-R720 kern kernel BUG: unable to handle kernel paging request at 000000609480000f

The full syslog file is attached...

Anybody able to assist?

Redo the flash drive and restore only super.dat (disk assignments) and the key, if it boots correctly like that reconfigure the server or start copying other parts of the config until you find the problem.
