UNRAID upgrade list...thoughts?

Featured Replies

Howdy all. Looking for some feedback. I've got a 100 TB array with 2 parity drives. I am currently "rocking" (lol) a i7 3770 with 32 GB of DDR3. I run a bunch of dockers including PLEX and have a dedicated Nvidia 1660ti for NVENC encodes. I also run a VM for work but need (want?) to put more on this since I have need for it with work. I am running another box with HyperV and a slightly newer i7 to fill the gap for now. I am stuck because the board in my UNRAID only has 4 6 GBps SATA ports and even with expansion cards, the PCI isn't giving me the bandwidth I need. The box is doesn't handle anything more than 1 Win10 VM without starting to really hit some lag.

I also have 2 TB Sabrent NVME cache drives...so my needs are basically 2 M.2 onboard, 8 SATA6 ports and I would prefer 8 memory slots so I can get to 256 GB DDR4 at some point. (128 is good for now..) I can't seem to find a board with 8 mem slots though w/ AMD CPU I want.

Based on this, what are people's thoughts on this build list...can it be done cheaper, or better? 16 cores seem to be a very good price point here.

With your wish for the MB, you could use pcpartpicker website to find the right one, with value for money.. I use it as it shows many filters for selection...
