February 9, 201115 yr I would have suggested the Corsair 650TX PSU. Where did you get the Supermicro 5 in 3s? Hard to find under $100 shipped.

I just double checked and the CX430 is a single rail design - which is good. At first I thought it was a multi-rail design which is bad for unRAID. 430 watts may not quite get you to 15 drives though.

The CX430 is rated at +12V@28A That is not 430 watts, but 336 watts (12x28). At 2 amps per green drive, and 4 or 5 for the motherboard and CPU, plus an amp or two for fans, you'll not get 15 drives to work reliably. You need something with about 40Amps capacity on the 12 Volt rail for an array of that size. ( or a pair of CX430's )
February 9, 201115 yr Author I'm from BC Canada and I got the Supermicro 5 in 3s from bestdirect.ca thats were I ordered everything from they always have the best prices. I currently only have 7 hard drives to put in but I wanted to have room to expand I will upgrade the Power Supply once I get a few more drives. How many drives do you think I could run now safely the limit so I know. And also does everything look good and will work well with unraid. And whats the best way to clip the little metal clips so the hot swap trays will fit in the Antec 1200 case I bought. Thanks
February 10, 201115 yr Author Is the sempron 140 enough power for my build and will it be able to stream 2 blu ray .mkv files at the same time. I have already ordered the parts but do you think it is worth it to upgrade to a i3 540 or similar or what. Thanks

Just wondering If i plug the power into all 3 supermicro 5in3 trays do they draw the same power empty as full of hard drives or what. Thanks

The only current draw then might be if the connectors also feed a fan on the back of the trays, and that will be small compared to the current drawn by the drives themselves if they were present.
