February 2, 20215 yr I'm running Unraid on a QNAP TS-451A which includes a SD card reader. The kernel in Unraid 6.8.3 and 3.9.0-rc2 doesn't seem to include the relevant kernel configuration. February 2, 20215 yr Speculation here, but I think the reason it is excluded is so that the slots don't get detected as drives and count against the license limit.

That does make sense, as the TS-451A does include an eMMC module that is used for installing the official QNAP firmware. That would indeed be detected as a drive when the MMC module is available. Maybe it could be built but blacklisted in a way that the user can remove the blacklist entry if they want to use it? I don't mind paying extra for the included eMMC that I wouldn't use. An empty SD slot shouldn't count towards the drive count, as far as I know Linux only shows a block device for the slot if something is in there. Edited February 2, 20215 yr by Strayer typo
December 15, 20214 yr I also would like this. I have a pocket sized PC. 8GB Ram, 256GB eMMC, 1TB NVMe, Quad Core 2+GHz CPU. I have a small 8GB Flash drive I use for Unraid, and have the NVMe for my storage drive. I would like to use the 256GB eMMC drive for storage of ISO files. ISOs take a LOT of space, but are rarely used, so having them on eMMC is not going to hurt my performance, and would be a better utilization of my available storage. Unattached drives can't see the space due to lack of Kernel drivers for the eMMC. With my setup, I am not going to be having an issue with Licensing the number of drives I have in the system.
February 23, 20242 yr I agree to this feature. I have a mini PC with only a eMMC module in it. There is no expansion slot for anything in this mini pc, so I really NEED this eMMC module to have at least one drive.
