change server name

Featured Replies

Just trying to change my server name from my windows web based console but it wont save. I've tried with the server stopped and running but when I apply it it just goes back to the old name

Is it actually not changing, or is your DNS not updating?

Try ipconfig /flushdns

What version of unRAID are you running?

Did you reboot the server after you changed the name?

so i am using version 4.6. when using the web interface i stop the server go to settings and type my new server name then press apply i hear the server making some noise then it changes back to the original server name. i tried retarting as well as it still shows the original name. curently my server is named the vault with a space in the middle but ive decided to sell both my htpcs running xbmc for simplicity/power consumption  and run wd tv live+s instead. problem is "the vault" does not show up on the wd boxes only "the" and it says not accesable. im thinking it may be a issue with the space in between the vault

Open the following file in window's file explorer

\\the vault\flash\config\ident.cfg

edit the line that says

NAME=the vault

and change the name

Then reboot.

or

log in via telnet or on the command line and type

sed  -i  "s/NAME=the vault/NAME=the_vault/"  /boot/config/ident.cfg

then reboot.

Create the Video share, then move the tv/movies/random root level directories under the Video share on each drive. You may need to create the Video directory on each drive.

I think perhaps the OP either has his answer already, or doesn't care.
