LSI 9207 8i Fake or Not

Featured Replies

Purchased a sas card of ebay - Was listed as a LSI 9207

The card arrived with a sticker over the LSI logo so i had the serial checked with Broadcom and below is the response

is not a counterfeit controller, it is a gray market product. This mean it was made for DELL systems and should only be installed in DELLL systems! It is recommended to return it and get a 12Gb/s controller as 6Gb/s Controllers are too old and no longer supported

Question is - is it safe to use

It's fine. You may have to cover a couple PCIe pins with kapton tape if your motherboard isn't happy and won't boot, or something like that. You'll know immediately, if it comes up without issue then it's fine as is.

Broadcom just wants you to pay for a newer controller instead of bugging them if you have issues with the older one. Pretty much they just put you on notice not to expect support from broadcom AT ALL with that board.

Since you would be flashing it anyway, as long as you see it come up when you boot it should be fine.  I agree with @jonathanm, they just want you to buy a new one.
