What hardware do you have in your build?

Featured Replies

Good day all,

Been an urnaid user for about half a year now and am still in the phase where i'm figuring out what i want / need.

Part of this is trying to learn from others as to what kind of hardware they use for the purpose they use it.

Currently i am personally running into the issue where i 'require' 4 x16 PCI slots but only have 3 . . .

1 VGA for unraid itsself, 1 VGA for docker encoder, 1 vga for VM (passthrough) and 1 SAS controller.

So i'm curious what type of build you all have, ill start with mine.

Goals:

NAS server / Lancache

Plex server

Headless gameserver host

Teamspeak server

Security server

VM's (to tinker with)

Used hardware:

MSI Pro Carbon x370

Ryzen 7 1700

32GB memory @3000mhz

LSC Corp SAS controller (2x SAS to 8x Sata, as you just don't have enough sata ports, ever)

4x 4TB WD Red (12 usable 4 parity)

2x 500gb kingston NVME (cache total 1TB)

2x 256GB SSD (VM / Gameservers)

1x Radeon 5430 (its what i had laying around)

1x PCI-E x1 GB eth nic (cause i wanna LAG in the near future)

Change to X299 platform some month, but not all motherboard would utilize 44pcie lane and not easy to found.

Cooling will be serious issue if all 7 slot with high power device.

A used 7960x will available in few days.
