adrian ballard
Planning for a 22 drive build (20 data, 1 parity, 1 cache) Proposed drives: 20 x WD20EARS for data 2 x WD2001FASS for parity/cache (or would 2 x WD2002FAEX be better considering the mobo below?) These components are finalized: Mobo: Supermicro X8SIL-F CPU: Intel i3 550 So what PSU? I was thinking either Corsair Gold AX750 or Gold AX850. Thanks Link to comment
Rajahal
I would recommend using EARS drives all around. Having a parity drive faster than the data drives won't help you in most cases. The write to the server will still run at the speed of the slowest drive involved. A faster cache drive does sort of make sense, but I still contend that the price difference between the green and black drives are not worth the performance difference. You can expect to see 60 - 70 mb/s writes to a green cache drive, and a black cache drive will only add a few mb/s to that. Not worth it in my opinion. For the PSU I would recommend a Corsair 650W. The 750 or 850 will be overkill. Link to comment
