Does Ubuntu VM Recognize Optical Drives?

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I am new to the UnRaid OS and I learned after a lot of research the app called Unassigned Devices does not support optical drives.  That is a shame because it would have made things less complicated for me if this app recognized my two optical drives.

Nevertheless, I now have learned the only way I can have my UnRaid OS recognize my optical drives is by installing a Virtual Machine (VM).  I plan to install Ubuntu because it requires no product key. In contrast Windows 10 requires a product key.

Can someone in the community be so kind to clarify the following. After I install my Ubuntu VM will my two optical drives appear as PC data devices automatically on my Ubuntu VM desktop?  Or do I have to install some kind of VM plugin so my Ubuntu VM recognizes my two optical drives?

Lastly, I intend to use my two optical drives for the task of migrating a lot of movies I have burned onto DVD disks straight into my UnRaid OS 1tb Cache Disk. And then in the evening when I am asleep I want my UnRaid OS to automatically move all of the movie files straight to my Movies Share Drive.  In short, will my Ubuntu VM be able to recognize my 1tb Cache Disk as a share drive?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.  Thank you for your time.
