Parity disk in error state [1/2 solved - duff SATA lead?]

Recommended Posts

Hi!

woke up this morning to Parity drive in error state.

not had this one before, so bit of reading...

i've taken it all offline, removed/reseated the HBA card, checked connections.

drive appears fine, as soon as put it back as parity and press start array, it starts then fails.

the Parity drive is about a year old [not that that means anything]

i've attached diagnostic files from TOOLS/DIAGNOSTICS

not really sure what to do next. it all works. just no parity.

the only recent changes i've made [excluding upgrading to latest release] is set drives to spin down after 3 hours in an attempt to save a little energy at night.

other than that. Please can someone advise what to do next.

edit added disk info from diskspeed.

The syslog clearly shows you are getting write errors.   There is nothing obvious in the SMART report for the drive that I can see, but I would suggest clicking on the drive in the unRaid GUI and running an extended SMART test on it.

ok, running one now.

swapped the sata lead to the spare one on the HBA breakout lead and its at 2% parity check and no errors.

potentially a duff breakout end, odd considering nothings moved for a while!

edit - on 14% all seems back to normal.

mystery....
