February 12, 201115 yr The Atheros AR8131M lan chipset on this motherboard is not listed on the unRAID Hardware Compatibility page. It may work or it may not. I recommend 2 GB of ram. You will probably end up using the cache_dirs add-in and it's probably a good idea to give it a bit of ram to cache the directories with.
February 12, 201115 yr Author hi queeg! i emailed Tom Mortensen about that MSI mobo... He answered as follow Is it 100% compatible with linux? Then it is 100% compatible with unRAID. From the look of the specs, nothing exotic there.
February 12, 201115 yr Since you will be the first to use this motherboard, please try to perform the level 1 test as described on the UnRAID Hardware Compatibility page which will get it added to the list of working boards. Thanks.
February 13, 201115 yr Author hi queeg, now im kinda worried about MSI's Atheros LAN Chipsets.... Think i'll change my unRAID Rig a bit... like so... (canada pricing) [CPU] AMD Sempron 2.7GHz AM3 45W Single-Core ($37 + $0) [RAM] Kingston 1GB 240-Pin DDR3 1066Mhz CL7 ($13 + $10) [MOBO] ASRock 880GM-LE AM3 MicroATX ($69 + $7) [PSU] Antec NEO 400W ATX12V ($52 + $15) [CASE] Antec VSK-2000 ($44 + $0) but im puzzled on the Ram choice... 1GB enough to run unRAID? 2GB too much? better Dual-Channel? and why? thanks
February 13, 201115 yr Again, you will be the first to use the Asroc 880GM-LE so do the level 1 test. I advise 2GB ram. Dual/single channel won't matter for unRAID. Speed won't matter. 1 stick or two - it won't matter.
February 14, 201115 yr Here in Australia there wasn't a big difference in price between 1gb and 2gb stick of ram i think about $10. 1gb is enough to run unraid. If you use cache_dirs script a bit more won't kill. Thanks Josh
February 14, 201115 yr why would unRAID work better with 2GB of ram rather the 1GB? thanks!! Because you will likely want to use some of the add-ons like cache_dirs and they need a little ram for themselves.
