Photobucket/Imgur Alternatives?

Hey everyone,

Is there by any chance an app/docker that does photo hosting like photobucket or Imgur? I'd like to run something behind SWAG so I can host my own photos. I wanted to host my own site on unRAID but it looks like GoDaddy will not let me set my @ record to my DDNS Address that I currently use. It has to be to an IP address so I figured I can run a subdomain for my photos instead. Any ideas or insights would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

So I don't know much about configuring domain names... I only just bought one last week, for the first time ever with Namecheap.  Same type of setup, though.  @ has to be an IP address and not a hostname.

One work around would be if GoDaddy has any automated dynamic ip update api that you could use to update from a user script ... something apparently along the lines of:

https://www.godaddy.com/community/Managing-Domains/Dynamic-DNS-Updates/td-p/7862

https://www.instructables.com/Quick-and-Dirty-Dynamic-DNS-Using-GoDaddy/

As for the photos.. I don't have anything set up at the moment but in the past I've used piwigo for a gallery type of display.  It is ok, but doesn't offer a very modern feeling interface... so it depends what you're after.

Some I've been meaning to try but haven't gotten around to them yet --- librephotos, photoprism, photoview, and chevereto

There's a couple threads here about photo dockers... might find some inspiration.  If you search for photos in the community apps you'll see all these pop up.

I feel your pain.

I'm also looking for a complete self hosted photo solution and not just for storing them.

I want to go a step further and also would love:

- a self hosted website for viewing photo's and albums
- sharing options
- the option to resize images when i upload them
- a compatible android app with auto upload function.

Basically a self hosted google photo's -like system but with a compatible mobile app. There are enough options but i miss the mobile integration. ios/android. (don't tell me about nextcloud!)

I tested photoshow, piwigo, filerun, pydio, seafile, filebrowser, minio, tonido and they all do what is promised so i can't complain but i miss that 'final thing'. I'm currently running nextcloud as our own cloud and lychee to share nostalgic pictures with friends.

Don't get me wrong. I love what others coded in there spare time but i miss an all-in solution and i'm certainly willing to pay for it.

Check out Photoprism or Chevereto.

Which type of record are you creating? If you already have DDNS setup, create a CNAME record that points to your DDNS address. https://www.godaddy.com/help/add-a-cname-record-19236

I ended up going a whole complete new route! 😄 I transferred my domain off of GoDaddy to CloudFlare and setup the CloudFlare-DDNS docker. Also got NGINX Proxy Manager configured as well as Binhex-Nginx and ended up self hosting my site so I am good to go!

And what do you u use as alternative?

I am just running Nginx to host my site. With the help of one of my webdev friends we were able to build it, but I mainly use it to host pictures as I am a heavy user on certain car forums with a lot of write ups. I use to use Photobucket but suck really bad now. So I moved all my photos to my site and re-linked them.

I wasn't trying to do anything like full frontend photography thing. It was more interested in the backend of things and being able to access them.
