[SOLVED] 2 x on board SATA controllers not showing up

Featured Replies

This is a new unRAID build with all new hardware. Motherboard is a ASUS M4A78LT-M which has 6 onboard SATA ports. The case I have is a Zalman MS1000-HS2 which comes with 2 x 3 drive hot swap bays. Was only planning to go live with 3 HDD's but I have ended up ordering another 3 drives so I will need all 6 bays. During the build I have connected all 6 on board controllers to the bays.

However when I type "dmesg|grep SATA|grep link" this is the output;

root@Media:~# dmesg|grep SATA|grep link

ata2: SATA link down (SStatus 0 SControl 300)

ata3: SATA link down (SStatus 0 SControl 300)

ata4: SATA link down (SStatus 0 SControl 300)

ata1: SATA link up 3.0 Gbps (SStatus 123 SControl 300)

root@Media:~#

Currently only have 1 drive installed but I expected to see all 6 SATA controllers. When I put a couple more drives in the MB BIOS did see all three but I still did not get ata5 & 6 to show up in unRAID.

Any ideas as I am assuming the hw is ok due to the HDD showing up in the BIOS.

In the bios you need to set the ports to AHCI.  I think they default to IDE.

Thanks ;D I'll try on Tuesday as I have just set off another preclear so I guess the system will be busy until the early hours of Tuesday now :'(

With my ASUS board (M4A89TD Pro), The last 2 ports can be set to IDE mode while the 1st four are set to AHCI. Like queeg said, make sure they are all set to AHCI.
