March 5, 20215 yr Hey guys, after 2 years, unraid server is full. OLD config: NZXT H440 2x parity wd red 4TB 4x data wd red 4TB 1x ssd cache 500GB 1x ssd for VM 256GB I have successfully installed microsemi 11008i8e (couldn't find without external ports), cooling it with side mounted 120 mm fan (attached photo), plugged and precleared 4x new wd golds 12TB. Serves is running like this for two weeks new golds not added to array. Now the not funny part for me. I want it to work like this: 2x parity wd gold 12TB 2x data wd gold 12TB 6x data wd red 4TB 1x ssd cache 500GB 1x ssd for VM 256GB I can`t decide how to add them to array. If I should do new config with keep data option, or parity sync or what. I can`t be without server access too long. Can anyone help me please? Thanks a lot.
March 5, 20215 yr Community Expert The way I would suggest to proceed that minimizes downtime is: Make a note of the serial numbers of the existing 4TB parity drives (just in case you need them later) Use tools -> New Config and select the option to keep data and cache assignments Assign the new 12TB parity and data drives (keeping the old 4TB parity drives unassigned at this point) Start the array to start to build new parity on the 12TB parity drives based on the drives currently assigned. The new 12TB data drives will show as unmountable and need formatting before they can be used to store files. You can do this while parity is being built or wait until it finishes - the end result will be the same If the parity build fails for any reason ask for advice in the forum If the parity build succeeded error free you now add the old 4TB parity drives as new data drives and after they have been cleared by unRaid format them ready for use.
