March 5, 20215 yr i build a new system with 5 x 8TB in a non parity array. 2 x 500GB SSD as Cache ( showing only as 500GB ) Shares are Movies & TVShows ( set as highwater min 100GB free auto split in top layer & top two layer for TVShows ) both shares have cache disabled now. 2 x 8TB NTFS disks mounted as Unassigned Devices full with Shows and Movies. installed krusader to move files from NTFS to array, but here it fails. its fills up disk 1 and stops all transfers. its like it dont see the other drives. what do i do ? what have i done wrong ? home-diagnostics-20210305-1320.zip
March 5, 20215 yr Community Expert Chances are that the way you are selecting to move the files is creating the folders before moving their contents. The Split Level settings you have then force the content to the drive where the folders have been created.
March 5, 20215 yr Community Expert Not clear what your post has to do with the Subject of cache since you said you aren't using it. On mobile now so can't look at Diagnostics yet. Krusader and other software will start copy by creating all the empty folders first, then it will fill those folders with the files. Since the empty folders don't take much space, another disk never gets chosen for them, and then all the files go to those folders. One solution is to do smaller batches so another disk can be chosen for the next batch. When I had this problem with rsync loading my backup server I noticed it was going in alphabetical order so I just started at the end of the alphabet and moved some empty folders to other disks.
March 5, 20215 yr Author i was using cache but it fills the cache and that moves to disk 1 so i disabled it til im done moving. well sounds like that could be my error.
March 5, 20215 yr Community Expert It is impossible to move from faster cache to slower array as fast as you can write to cache. Mover is intended for idle time and default is daily in the middle of the night. If you intend to write more than cache will hold don't cache
March 5, 20215 yr Author yeah found the error it was as you said. just becouse im filling with old data, daily data will not get near cache size
