help - copying files to tower

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm new to unraid, and basically new to any type of linux distro. Actually I'm fairly new to networks/shares/permissions for that matter, so please bear with me. I've tried to do quite a bit of searching, but haven't had a heap of luck so ..

I've got the machine up and running, have found the ip address, added that to the hosts file on the imac so I can access it through http://tower etc.

I can log onto the shares as a root user through finder, and I have created shares, and view/access the shares in finder, can create folders etc.

However when I try to to copy (drag n drop or copy n paste) a file into anywhere in the share i get an error message:

The Finder can’t complete the operation because some data in “a.jpg” can’t be read or written.

(Error code -36)

A file shows up in the share, but then I can't delete the files through finder either.

I do have a notorious MB - ASUS M4A78LT-M-LE with the atheros NIC - is this likely to be causing the issue (i understand it causes issues - is it likely to have been this one)? I dont have a spare card handy to try, but i'll go buy one if its likely to solve the issue. I did read a post where Tom had talked about compiling a driver back in Sept 2010 but I wasn't sure if this issue had been resolved or not.

The only other info i could find:

http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=9344.0 mentions something that may have to do with this error, but I cant seem to find much on read only file system errors that the final post mentions that i assume is here: http://lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php?title=FAQ

Of course i could just be missing the blatently obvious.

I have attached a copy of a syslog.

If anyone sees anything else in there that could do with a little attention in cleaning it up, I'd love the advice.

Cheers

Ash

same here... never used linux before trying to copy unmenu install from windows 7 to unix ????hmmmm

It is likely the atheros NIC. Get a cheap Intel PCI NIC.
