Starting an official build for myself and I am shopping the parts.

 

Here is what I was thinking of:

I would suggest less CPU and power supply.

I can understand your suggesting less PS, because right now there is only 3 drives.  This is just a start, and I am planning on adding more drives down the road, and using the ICyDoc's 5 in 3 Drive bays for a Maximum of 15 drives.

 

do you still think I should cut down on the power supply and if so what would you recommend.

 

Also If the processor is too powerful what would you recommend for that also.

Queeg, your comment was misunderstood. Now the whole thread has been moved to Hardware. 

Even with 15 drives, 750TX is overkill. 650TX is more than enough.

 

I disagree on reducing CPU power. Exciting addons like virtualbox emerging that would benefit. If you're interested in ultra low power file server only functions, reducing CPU is ok.

 

I am no a fan of the Seagate LPs. YMMV. I'd recommend Hitachi or WD.

I'd suggest another MB...the Asus "LE" has the Atheros AR8131 LAN chipset, while supported by unRAID - has proven to be troublesome

search the board for "Atheros"

I use the Corsair 500W for all my 15 drive builds.  I think even the 650W is overkill in this scenario.

 

I agree that is a poor choice of motherboard.  I recommend the Biostar A760G M2+, which is currently available on eBay for fairly cheap.

 

I also agree that I don't like the Seagate LP drives very much, and I recommend the WD EARS instead.

I use only Seagate drives.  Lots of seagate users on the forum, we just don't need to beat the drum.
